Join Sustainable Middleborough for 2 events this week: 1     Monday, August 3, 7 pm. Kearsarge Energy will be on the Select Board agenda to answer the board’s questions about safety of a proposed 4.99 MW storage battery on Jericho Road. Some of our members spoke at the last meeting during a long and at-times heated discussion and were quoted in the Nemasket Week’s reporting . Please join us at Town Hall Monday night if you can. Sustainable Middleborough has been advocating for a large-scale storage battery since 2019. Battery storage is a key piece of managing our town’s energy supply, costs, reliability, as well as the emissions produced by the energy we use. To learn more, see our letter to the Select Board, attached. Tuesday, August 4, 6-7 pm. URGENT ACTION ALERT: Call your state rep today to stop energy-efficiency budget cuts

This is another moment when a 1-minute call to your state representative could make a big difference:  Call your state rep and tell them you oppose huge cuts to the state's energy-efficiency program TODAY, before this afternoon's vote. BACKGROUND:   Many of you called back in November to help stop the Climate Rollback Bill (H.4744) that would have eliminated the state's 2030 climate and environment goals.   The bill has been redrafted and rushed through as the Energy Omnibus Bill ( H. 5151 ). Our partners from Mass Power Forward, the coalition of 250 groups throughout the state that we're part of, will be at the State House all day. Support them by calling your state representative now. The bill has many improvements, including ones we fought for, such as keeping 2030 climate goals and eliminating subsidies for biomass. But there's a giant poison pill: it would cut  $1 billion of the $1.5B MassSave budget.   If this cut goes through, it would gut energy e...

Success! Town adopts PFAS-free procurement resolution

Image
Thank you to more than a dozen of you who showed up at the Select Board meeting last night!  Your presence makes a difference. The board unanimously approved the resolution to procure certified PFAS-free products whenever available, proposed by Sustainable Middleborough and Citizens for a Healthy Middleboro. Read the  story in the Nemasket Week . Educating ourselves and resolving not to bring products with PFAS into our homes and into our town is a big step toward keeping PFAS out of our landfill, soil, and groundwater. Come to our free workshop “How to Reduce PFAS in Your Home and Our Town” on Wednesday, April 2, at 7 pm, Select Board Room, Town Hall, with Dr. Laurel Schaider of Silent Spring Institute and Laura Spark of Clean Water Action. We’ve attached our flyer again, and here’s our  Facebook event . Help us by posting, sharing, & spreading the word.
