  Dear Friends,   I wanted to write to you about the deeply disturbing post made on social media this morning by President Trump, threatening the people of Iran by saying “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” This is a pivotal, dangerous moment for our country. Let me tell you what I’m doing to address the rantings of our president and stop this war from escalating in the Middle East.    The first step I am taking is calling on Republicans to call Congress back into session. We have a job to do, and it is simply unacceptable for Republicans to keep us on a two-week recess while the President of the United States considers sending ground troops into Iran and threatens to commit war crimes against an entire nation of people. Congress’ role in authorizing any military action cannot be ignored any longer.   Dear Friends,    I wanted to let you know about a new office policy I am implementing on my team, and why it matters as we work towards restoring trust in government.    CNN  reported  this week that one trader made nearly $1 million since 2024 from dozens of bets placed via Polymarket that correctly predicted U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran. That individual won 93% of their five-figure bets about Iran, even though the events in question were unannounced publicly at the time.    This raises serious concerns.    Prediction markets must not allow insider trading or host contracts that violate U.S. law. Profiting from war because of information gained from government service is unacceptable.   Dear Friends,    Even in a time when Washington can feel pretty dysfunctional, there are still moments when we can deliver real results for our communities. I’m glad to share one of those moments today with you.   I recently secured $14.3 million in federal funding for 14 community projects across the Sixth District. These investments were included in this year’s government funding bill and will go directly toward projects that make a real difference in people’s day-to-day lives—from upgrading water infrastructure to investing in schools, transportation, and workforce development.
