March 27, 2026 Thank you for contacting me regarding the Trump administration’s use of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE is the federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security responsible for preserving national security and public safety through the enforcement of immigration laws. Under President Trump, however, ICE is not operating within its mandates. While previous administrations’ immigration enforcement priorities focused on the arrest and removal of undocumented immigrants who posed threats to public safety and national security, President Trump has expanded the scope of enforcement to target all undocumented immigrants, regardless of threat or criminal history. The president’s zealous and inappropriate use of ICE has left two American citizens dead after ICE agents were given a clear directive from President Trump to target people on the streets, in their homes, at work, and other public places.
