  Right now, we are standing on the edge of a health care cliff. Republicans in Congress have refused to pass legislation to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which expire on December 31st. But there is hope. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries secured bipartisan support for a discharge petition that will force a vote on extending the ACA enhanced premium tax credits, and a vote is expected as soon as Congress returns in January.  If the House passes a clean extension of the subsidies, it increases the likelihood that the Senate could act quickly. Without that extension, more than 20 million people will see their out-of-pocket monthly insurance payments skyrocket, and many will be forced to go without health care altogether, having to choose necessities such as food and housing over health insurance.
