Disinformation is poised to play a big role in Virginia’s state elections
Thursday, March 6 We live in a new era for elections, where one of the most pressing and dangerous issues is that of mass disinformation. The disinformation threat reached a boiling point in 2020, when President Donald Trump spread false allegations about mass voter fraud in an effort to overturn the election results. And in 2024, it continued with Trump and the GOP screaming loudly about the myth of noncitizen voting. It spread across the country, but it hit Virginia’s elections particularly hard. With the state’s upcoming off-year elections, election officials and voting rights advocates are worried disinformation might be even worse this year.
