  Water restrictions in place in Middleboro Jun 15, 2026 Drought conditions have prompted a call for water use restrictions. The Middleboro Select Board, which also serves as the town’s water commissioners,    has restricted outdoor water use as the state deals with drought conditions ranging from mild to critical Effective immediately, a ban has been placed on non-essential water use.  This ban includes the following: Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems. Handheld hose watering is permitted. Washing vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as needed for operator safety. Filling swimming pools. Washing exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks except as needed to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement. (Yes, it's a two-game streak, but still.) Let's get to the news: On Beacon Hill:   Massachusetts may be  behind most other states  on school cellphone restrictions. But a new bill on Beacon Hill could propel the state to the leading edge when it comes to limiting the distracting devices for kids — both inside and outside of school. In  a 129-25 vote last night  , the state's House of Representatives passed a bill that would prohibit kids under the age of 14 from using social media altogether, in addition to instituting a bell-to-bell cellphone ban in public K-12 schools. State Rep.
