  Last night, Michigan held its primaries. Michiganders turned out in record-breaking numbers for an August primary — more than a million ballots cast, surpassing every August primary in the state's history. On a summer Tuesday, with no presidential race on the ballot, people showed up. That is what a healthy democracy looks like. In November, that display of democracy will be tested.
