      I've said for months that Kristi Noem should be impeached.  Yesterday, she was fired. Under her leadership, federal agents shot and killed two Americans and terrorized countless innocent citizens and immigrants. Up to $220 million in taxpayer money was routed through a no-bid contract tied to a consulting firm with long-standing ties to Noem and her inner circle.  Taxpayer dollars should never be treated like a personal piggy bank for political allies or vanity projects . She was never fit to serve, and I'm grateful to the many people who spoke out and organized against her abuses. Your advocacy made a difference, from stopping an ICE facility on the Oregon Coast to demanding accountability nationwide. But let's be clear: replacing her with Sen. Markwayne Mullin won't fix the problem. The Trump administration will continue using taxpayer dollars to expand ICE and reward the private prison companies that spent millions helping to elect him. Bloody Sunday Joyce Vance Mar 8 Today marks the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, March 7, 1965. The Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, march for voting rights was halted by Alabama state troopers and sheriffs who tear-gassed and beat the marchers. A trooper beat Future Georgia Congressman John Lewis in the head with a nightstick. Given the brutality of the attacks, he was lucky to end up with a concussion. As serious as that was, it could have been far worse. The national press reported what was happening in Selma to the rest of the country. The outrage it generated across the country was a pivotal moment in the struggle for civil rights. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed later that year.
