Hasson III Guest Columnist Published Oct. 8, 2022 The recent relocation of approximately 50 migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard is a stark reminder of the human consequences that occur when partisan politics influence immigration policies. It’s also a reminder of what can happen when individuals and local communities transcend these politics and turn towards caring for and welcoming the stranger. Since 2015 I’ve studied the experiences and outcomes of vulnerable immigrants, including unaccompanied children. This research, guided by social work values and ethical principles, can inform our understanding of what happened in Martha’s Vineyard, and what local, state, and federal authorities can do moving forward. Charlie Baker and conservative state party Chair Jim Lyons is blowing up again, this time over auditor nominee Anthony Amore. Three dozen members of the MassGOP state committee  — just shy of a majority — sent a letter to Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel last week imploring her to make Lyons “end his efforts to defeat our leading Republican candidate for statewide office, Anthony Amore,” according to a copy shared with Playbook and  other outlets . Phasing in over the next few years, the measure will cap the out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs at $2000 a year and make vaccinations free for seniors on Medicare. If the price of drugs rises faster than inflation, drug companies will have to rebate the difference to Medicare. And Biden noted that today, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that the premium for Medicare Part B, which pays for doctor visits, will decrease this year.
