The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has announced that, starting in 2026, no fur will be allowed at any official NYFW events. That means no fur on the runway, no fur in promotional materials, and no fur featured on NYFW’s platforms. This is a huge victory for animals, for compassion, and for everyone who has been fighting to push cruel fur out of fashion. Under this ban, fur from animals farmed or trapped for their coats — mink, foxes, rabbits, chinchillas, coyotes, and raccoon dogs — is no longer allowed. The rule makes a single exception for animal fur obtained by Indigenous communities through traditional subsistence hunting practices.
