314 new COVID-19 cases, no deaths reported on Cape and Islands  Assad Jung Cape Cod Times  Published Oct. 8, 2022 There were 8,480 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, increasing the total number of cases to 1,887,130 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health reported on Thursday.      In their weekly report, state officials also noted 1,462 new probable cases of coronavirus for a statewide total of 173,754.      As of Oct 5, 227 patients were primarily hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses and 758 total patients hospitalized with COVID-19, the state agency reported.    Seventy-two patients were in intensive care units, or ICUs, and 22 patients were intubated.
