An Update From Your Congressman

LAST 2 WEEKS IN REVIEW I’m your Representative in Congress and I write to keep you informed. Chaos & uncertainty weakening the economy Working to safeguard science and health The imperative to grapple with post-Covid learning loss Peace through strength; not ceasefire through appeasement Curbing online toxicity with Section 230 reform Students on Capitol Hill    Chaos & uncertainty weakening the economy A call for a bold Democratic agenda  :  The Trump Administration is chaotic and corrupt, and the partisan continuing resolution (CR) was a blank check for the president that reduces oversight of his spending decisions and expands his ability to abuse emergency powers. I voted no.  I joined over 60 other House Democrats in a   letter  urging our Senate colleagues to also reject the CR. The American people did not send us to Washington to capitulate to chaos. We must use every opportunity, however rare in the minority, to show the American ...

I voted NO

THANK YOU SENATOR JON OSSOFF!  WE SUPPORTED YOU WHEN YOU INITIALLY RAN FOR ELECTION BECAUSE WE  BELIEVED IN YOUR INTEGRITY & YOUR ABILITY TO SUPPORT YOUR CONSTITUENTS  AS WELL AS ALL AMERICANS! THANK YOU FOR CONFIRMING OUR BELIEFS!  I voted ‘NO’ on the Trump/Musk/Johnson ‘CR.’ First of all: it’s not a CR (continuing resolution) at all. He’s delegated massive power to Earth’s richest man — his chief campaign contributor — who is remaking our government according to his whim. *** Every year I’ve been in the S...

Robin Hood in reverse

Yesterday, I voted NO on a terrible Continuing Resolution bill - written by right-wing Republicans in the House with no input from anybody but themselves. This bill moves our country toward authoritarianism by usurping Congress‘s constitutional responsibility to determine how federal funds are spent, and creates a slush fund for Elon Musk and Donald Trump to continue their war against the working families of our country. This bill puts more and more power into the hands of the White House. In order to pass this bill the Republicans needed 60 votes - which meant they had to have seven votes from Democrats – and they got them. Actually they got ten. That is sad and a real failure on the part of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill. But that’s only part of what’s going on right now. As I’m sure you know Trump, Musk and the Republican Party are going after Social Security, cutting thousands of jobs at the Social Security administration...
