  There’s a voucher scheme to take money away from our public schools and hand it to private schools, which are often unaccredited and for-profit. Proponents call it “school choice.” But in practice it’s resulting in the closure of public schools across the country. More Perfect Union traveled to Arizona where residents are seeing the impact firsthand. We spoke with Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes who told us , “It has ballooned into a billion-dollar boondoggle that is rife with misspending and fraud.” An investigation by a local Arizona news outlet helped uncover the fraud being perpetrated by this school voucher scheme, including funds being misused on everything from trips to Disneyland to PlayStation 5s to a diamond ring to a tutoring company that doesn’t seem to exist.
