Fund human needs, not ICE

Image
SHARED FOR INFORMATION AND EDUCATION ON SIGNIFICANT                          CONGRESSIONAL ACTIONS!   Going against public sentiment, the House advanced a bill to hand ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) up to $140 billion more―for the remainder of Donald Trump’s term. 1  Remember, Congress already gave these anti-immigrant enforcement agencies about $170 billion last year in the Big Brutal Bill. At a time when the public’s views of ICE and the administration are at an all-time low, Congress continues to hand our tax dollars over to unaccountable agencies known for their brutality with absolutely no guardrails. This additional funding will give them more resources to terrorize our communities and harass our children, racially profile and kidnap our neighbors, and commit assault.  Since Trump return...

How do Republicans plan to pass Trump’s deeply unpopular budget?

Image
Congressional Republicans have a narrow majority.  So how do they plan on passing Trump’s budget priorities that include funding for ICE, Border Patrol, and the Pentagon while cutting critical human needs? Come hear from our panel of experts this Thursday, April 16 at 1:00pm ET / 10:00am PT at a timely webinar,  Threats to Basic Needs Programs: Looming Budget Battles and the President’s Proposed Cuts . Click here to RSVP for Thursday’s webinar. RSVP We’ll hear from speakers about Republicans’ plan to use reconciliation to jam through the president’s priorities―a mechanism that would allow the Senate to pass Trump’s budget with a simple majority instead of needing to clear a 60 vote threshold.  They know that’s the only way they can possibly pass Trump’s unpopular agenda. We’ll also discuss what you and our broader movement can do to fight back against these attacks on children and families, communities of color, our housing and health care needs, immigrants, and ot...

MEDICAID SLASHED TO FUND ICE GESTAPO IN BIG BEAUTIFUL DISASTER 4 BILL! NOW WAREHOUSES?

Image
MEDICAID SLASHED TO FUND ICE GESTAPO IN BIG BEAUTIFUL DISASTER  BILL! NOW WAREHOUSES?   Thanks to you, the Senate has rejected more funding for ICE without critical reforms to end the inhumane and unconstitutional attacks on our communities. Body-worn cameras and training of ICE agents aren’t enough. We demand justice and accountability. Just this year, ICE and CBP have shot and killed people in our streets while last year more people died in ICE custody than in more than 20 years.  Meanwhile, ICE is using its massive infusion of tens of billions of dollars from last year’s Big Brutal Bill to buy up warehouses across the country and convert them into detention centers. 1 Instead of more money for ICE cruelty, we’re demanding ICE be held accountable and that Congress rescind and reallocate ICE funding toward critical human needs, including health care, nutrition, and housing. Already, we’ve sent hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress, demanding not another dime...

Re: We must stop the Senate from funding ICE

Image
The House passed a series of funding bills last week, including funding for human needs programs such as housing, public health, K-12 education, child care, and mental health assistance. Our coalition worked hand in hand with our congressional allies to get increased funding along with some important guardrails to rein in this brutal administration’s funding freezes and missallocation of funds. These victories are proof that our organizing and activism work. We achieved these victories, and we can achieve more.   We need to. The House also passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. We must fight back against proposals to increase funding for ICE enforcement and detention.  ICE has terrorized our communities over the past year. We’ve seen the images of people―including small children―being violently detained, searched, and, in the case of Renee Good, murdered. We cannot continue to fund an agency dedicated to this kind of wanton recklessness. We’r...
