Morning Digest: Florida GOP passes new House map, turbocharged by VRA's demise
Yesterday was as grim as it gets. First, the Supreme Court eviscerated what remained of the Voting Rights Act. Then, Florida passed a new congressional map dancing on the VRA’s grave. I’ve always revered democracy because my family experienced the dire consequences of its disappearance first-hand. Wednesday’s one-two punch was just gutting. But for the very same reason, I threw myself into covering yesterday’s news without hesitation. The enemies of democracy are counting on those of us who would defend it to give up in dismay.
