The court expanded the scope of those able to register and vote to include  56,000 people  serving punishments for felony convictions, but who aren’t behind bars. In a state like North Carolina, experts say that influx of voters could make a huge difference. And with a major Senate election coming up in this swing state this year,  that could just influence the tone of our national politics . Democrats hold only the slimmest of majorities in the Senate right now, so we’ve got to fight for every single seat. A win for voting rights like this one is good news for anyone who’s pro-democracy … which means it’s bad news for Republicans.
