This week, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is requesting permission to draw an additional 20 million gallons of water per day from the Quabbin Reservoir to serve new communities. It is by far the largest such request since the MWRA was formed in 1984, and is further stoking tensions between the agency, which oversees the state's largest source of drinking water, and the towns surrounding the Quabbin.
