DACA delays put lives and livelihoods on the line
DACA recipients -- also known as “Dreamers” -- are deeply woven into our American culture. They are students, healthcare workers, educators, and essential employees who contribute billions to the economy and strengthen communities across the country. Many were brought to the United States as children through no choice of their own. Having grown up here, they are culturally American -- shaped by U.S. schools, communities, and values, and committed to ideals of freedom, prosperity, safety, and being responsible neighbors. To qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), they must meet strict requirements, including maintaining a clean criminal record and filing renewal applications on time. Yet, despite doing everything right, government delays in processing their applications, due every other year, can lead to lapses in protection.
