A START ON STUDENT DEBT

Our Revolution and the progressive movement leveraged the power of this moment to urge the President to fulfill his campaign promise ahead of the midterms.

The pressure is working. With the stroke of a pen, Biden canceled $10k of student debt for those making less than $125k/yr and $20k for those who received Pell grants.

This is a start, but it doesn’t rise to the scale of the problem. We need full student debt cancellation — and all higher education should be free.

Become a sustaining member of Our Revolution right now to build on this progress. These critical steps are happening because of YOU.

STOPPING MANCHIN’S DIRTY DEAL TO FAST-TRACK FOSSIL FUELS

Sen. Joe Manchin has issued an ultimatum — greenlight his dirty deal to fast-track fossil fuels or he’ll shut down the government on Sept. 30.

Our Revolution and our progressive allies refuse to let Manchin cancel out recent climate gains. In fact, US Rep. Ro Khanna predicts a “progressive mutiny” if leadership tries to jam through the deal, Bill McKibben wrote this week.

Our Revolution also joined over 650 organizations to issue a letter to Congressional leaders demanding they reject the dirty deal and all other fossil fuel handouts!

If Dems cave to Manchin’s terrorist tactics, our planet will suffer irreversible consequences. Time is running out to stop this deal, so chip in now to fund this fight — any amount helps!

Dem leadership is ready to give Manchin more pipelines and drilling, fewer regulations, and fewer safeguards for impacted communities — all packaged in a *must-pass* resolution to fund the government.

Help us fight back! Contact your House Rep now to make these demands —
  • Don’t fast-track new gas or oil projects
  • Don’t fast-track carbon pipelines
  • Don’t cut environmental safeguards in fossil fuel projects
  • Separate the fast-track vote from the must-pass resolution to fund the government

NY PRIMARY RESULTS

Congratulations to Our Revolution-backed NY State Sen. Robert Jackson who - with the help of our volunteers - won his primary on Tuesday in District 31.

Robert defeated big money from hedge funds, charter schools, and real estate trying to unseat him.

From his time as School Board President to NYC Council to the State Senate, Robert has built decades of experience fighting for education equality, affordable housing, and a prosperous, multicultural NYC.

Our Revolution NYPAN was on the ground with Sen. Jackson knocking on doors in the district, and we’ll have his back heading into the general election in November.

And, Our Revolution-endorsed Gustavo Rivera also won his primary for NY State Senate (D-33)!

As chair of the Senate Health Committee, Gustavo is the main sponsor of the New York Health Act — which would create a system of universal, single-payer healthcare in the state.

We beat out SuperPACs and conservative billionaires like Walmart heir Jim Walton who targeted our progressive NY candidates — spending $1M against Gustavo Rivera and another $215k against Robert Jackson.

Other Our Revolution NYPAN wins include Jamal Bowman for Congress in NY-16, and State Senate candidates Jabari Brisport (SD-25) and Jessica Ramos (SD-30).

Our Revolution is launching our fund for the general election in November. Help us elect more allies who will partner with our movement by becoming a sustaining member now.

This 2022 primary season, Our Revolution Phonebank Force has made close to 600,000 calls to connect directly with voters across the country.

Now, we’re gearing up for the midterms in November — we need all hands on deck to stop a far-right takeover and to elect progressives who will fight for all of us.

ELRICH WINS RECOUNT!

On Wednesday - more than five weeks after Maryland’s Democratic primary - Our Revolution’s endorsed candidate, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, was certified the winner.

It was a tough fight against pharma CEO David Blair and Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post, but a multi-racial, multi-generational coalition of working families came together across the county and won.

Given the closeness of the race, we are confident that Our Revolution’s disciplined efforts on Marc’s behalf likely made the difference!

Our Revolution Board Member Jim Hightower wrote an op-ed this week about our “statewide democratic rebellion” to take back grassroots control of the WV Democratic Party from Joe Manchin.

This summer, after six years of organizing, we helped elect a slate of over 50 candidates to oust the Manchinites on the Party executive committee and replaced all but one of the top Party officers with grassroots activists.

“It truly was a diverse, people-run victory,” Hightower said. “There’s a new beacon of light shining down on the government with people energized and ready to strategize with a return to the democratic process,” he said.

Selina Vickers, a social worker, was chief strategist, and Mike Pushkin, a cab driver, is now the party chair. Danielle Walker is now vice-chair of the committee and the first person of color to sit on the Party’s governing body.

As Hightower put it: “For guidance on bringing this kind of progressive reform to your local/state Dem Party hierarchy, go to Our Revolution, the one national group prioritizing work on this fundamental democratic change to the Party.”

TAKING DARK MONEY OUT OF PRIMARIES

Last month, we asked Our Revolution members what you would change about the Democratic Party, and over 80% agreed we must ban dark money from Democratic primaries!

As a result, Our Revolution and our coalition of 33 progressive DNC members introduced a resolution “for the DNC to enforce a ban on secretive campaign spending by tracking it,” The Washington Post reports on our efforts, which include procedures for possible disciplinary action of dark money use.

We’ve seen what dark money has done to progressive candidates like Jessica Cisneros, Nina Turner, and even incumbent US Rep. Andy Levin. It’s outrageously anti-democratic and this one change would go a long way to making it a fair fight.

To outweigh the lobbyists in the party, we must demonstrate the power of this grassroots demand every day up through the Sept. 10th voting deadline. Chip in now to help us BAN dark money.

WORKER BILL ADVANCES IN CA

AB 257 - the FAST Recovery Act to give California fast food workers a seat at the table passed through the Appropriations Committee Thursday and you can help it pass the full State Senate - hopefully by Monday!

Our Revolution activists and allies have worked for years for historic legislation like this, and if we win in California - we can use this as a model for workers across the country.

Angelica Hernandez, who’s worked at McDonald’s in Los Angeles for 18 years, told us on our Organizing Call last week of an industry rife with wage theft, sexual harassment, discrimination, violence, and health and safety issues.

CALIFORNIA: CALL YOUR STATE SENATORS NOW

Half a million California fast food workers are on the cusp of victory, but they need our solidarity and activism! We must ramp up the pressure THIS WEEK.

The Full California Senate is supposed to vote on it early next week. If you are in California, call your state senators NOW to demand AB 257. It’s a quick action for a big impact — don’t worry, it’s easy and there’s a script!

Our Revolution New Jersey showed up at the office of US Rep. Andy Kim in Toms River on Thursday with nearly 400 signatures from constituents urging him to support Medicare For All!

So far, we’ve grown support from 24 organizations, delivered a statement from 11 unions, a letter signed by 42 mainstream Dems and party officials, nurse & patient testimonies, and passed a local Resolution.

NJ-3 deserves a true healthcare champion, which Andy Kim promised to be. Our movement won’t let up until he co-sponsors HR 1976.

Just like we flipped US Rep. Frank Pallone, we are going to keep up the pressure on members of Congress to back Medicare for All. Become a monthly donor to fund this critical work today!

Bernie Sanders founded Our Revolution six years ago to fight for a government and economy that work for all of us.

Today, Our Revolution is the largest progressive grassroots-funded organization in the country, but we need to keep growing our movement to take on the powerful forces blocking change.
