I don't think it's complicated—nobody is above the law. I don't care if you're incredibly rich or super famous or wield great power. You should have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Unfortunately, the MAGA Republicans disagree. A couple of weeks ago, the FBI served a warrant and seized 15 boxes of documents from former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence. The FBI reportedly found classified materials in those boxes, including some of the most classified documents there are—things even my staff with security clearances don't get to see. What was the MAGA response? To defund the FBI. You can't make this stuff up. They don't have a problem with the law-breaking, they have a problem with being caught. This isn't an isolated case. The MAGA crowd is also freaking out that the Inflation Reduction Act will crack down on billionaire and corporate tax evasion. I bet you pay your taxes. You probably don't have much choice in the matter, and don't pay fancy accountants hundreds of thousands of dollars to help you cheat. But the billionaire class sure does. Their cheating costs the government an estimated $1 trillion every year! YES, $1 TRILLION. They think you should pay your taxes so they get the benefits of roads and bridges, cutting edge research, our legal and education system, and a strong national defense. And so much more while they evade paying what they owe. Well you know what? I think that's B.S. That's why the Inflation Reduction Act is finally cracking down on tax cheats, and just listen to the MAGA Republicans howl about it. This is what's at stake in November. The MAGA GOP thinks rules shouldn't apply to them and their billionaire, corporate donor class. Their plans to cut Social Security and Medicare, to take away rights to reproductive health care, to siphon funding from public schools—it's all about looting our shared national resources for themselves. I still live in the blue collar community I grew up in, and I know that it's community that makes us strong—each of us doing our part so all of us have a chance. There's no way I'm going to let the rich and powerful play by their own rules to take advantage of the rest of us. That's not how America is supposed to work and it's why I'm giving everything I've got to expand our Senate majority, win House seats, and hold Oregon's governorship this fall. Election season is here. We're just over two months from Election Day. It's time to bear down. All of us who believe in the rule of law and a vision of America where opportunity extends to all equally need to be in the fight. Onward, Jeff
