Alaska, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas

How can you tell that Republicans are scared of losing the Senate? As my colleague Matt Kerbel wrote earlier this week on Wolves And Sheep, the Substack associated with Bowers News Media, just follow the money:
Last week, the Senate Leadership Fund, a major Republican super PAC, announced it was spending $342 million on eight Senate races.

That’s one-third of a billion dollars—on eight races. (...)

New Hampshire, Georgia and Michigan are seats held by Democrats. That’s $106 million for offense.

The remaining five states are held by Republicans. That’s $235 million for defense.
By a more than 2-1 margin, Republicans are spending their enormous piles of cash to defend Republican-held seats instead trying to flip Democratic-held seats. Further, three of the states where they are spending their money–Alaska, Iowa and Ohio–are states that Donald Trump won by double-digits in November 2024. Now, Republicans have decided to they need to spend hundreds of millions to defend seats in those states. That's fear.

As Matt went on to write, "Democrats need to net four seats to claim a Senate majority. One year ago, the conventional wisdom was that there simply were not enough Republican seats where they could be competitive. Today, we know Republicans recognize that there are—and they’re moving early to reinforce their weak position."

Republicans are afraid of losing the Senate. In the interest of making it as easy as possible for you to help make those Republican fears a reality, I've put together an ActBlue page allowing you to simultaneously donate to the Democratic nominees in all six of the currently most competitive Republican-held seats--Alaska, Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas--and also to Bowers Kerbel Media.

To make sure I am being transparent with you, Bowers Kerbel Media is the two-person organization that operates both the Bowers News Media news and activism email list as well as the Wolves and Sheep political analysis and practical life advice Substack.

In Alaska, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas, the Democratic nominee is already clear. However, in Iowa and Maine I have included a Democratic nominee fund as a placeholder. When it comes to the nominee funds, any donation you make will be put into escrow and transferred to the eventual Democratic nominee once the U.S. Senate primary election in that state is over.

Finally, the amounts that you give to each entity can be customized by clicking "customize amounts." In fact, no donation to Bowers Kerbel Media, or to any individual candidate or nominee fund, is required to make a donation on this page.

Please, split a $20 donation evenly between Mary Peltola, Sherrod Brown, James Talarico, Roy Cooper, the Democratic nominee funds for Iowa and Maine, and Bowers Kerbel Media. Support the Democratic nominees in all six of the best Democratic pickup chances at the same time.

About
Bowers News Media is a one-person grassroots activism email list, run by me, Chris Bowers, a 20-year veteran of online progressive politics at Daily Kos, Open Left and MyDD. I write all of the emails myself, in an honest, measured, personal voice, citing all of my sources and avoiding exaggeration. I aim to bring you the most efficient activism operation around, almost entirely free of overhead, and to always remain accessible to you by reading every single email you send me (and replying to most of them).

Wolves and Sheep is a Substack run by Matthew Kerbel, a political science professor of over 30 years at Villanova University. Matt brings you timely, outside the beltway analysis of our national politics, informed by history and social science, to help you make sense of what often feels like an out-of-control world.

Together, we run the Bowers Kerbel Media collaboration, a joint effort between Bowers News Media and Wolves and Sheep. Matt and I are old friends, and even wrote a book together about a decade ago.
