Another person has died in ICE custody.
Emmanuel Damas, an asylum seeker, reportedly suffered from an infection that guards ignored for weeks until he developed sepsis. His death comes as reports show 2025 was the deadliest year on record for people held in ICE detention.
In just six weeks spanning December and January, six people died in ICE facilities across the country.
Meanwhile, disturbing accounts continue to surface — including allegations of violence against detainees and minors, deaths under suspicious circumstances, and federal authorities restricting outside investigations into these incidents.
All the while, private corporations operating ICE detention centers are making enormous profits.
State and local leaders have begun pushing back by restricting cooperation with ICE and limiting the use of public land for detention facilities. But much more must be done.
Sign the petition demanding that states:
• Ban ICE detention centers on state land
• End cooperation between local police and ICE
• Protect communities from abusive detention practices
More than 73,000 people are currently held in ICE detention. States must act to protect them. Click here to add your name to the petition now.
Thank you for taking action.
