The regime is taking hits from every direction right now, and I’m here to make sure you don’t miss a single resistance win. I know a lot of us are tired. I know it feels like every morning the country wakes up to a new headline that wears you down. This is the part where you get to stop the doomscrolling for a few minutes and let the good news roll in. I promise it’s worth the time, and there’s more of it out there than you might think. Hit the ❤️ like button and re-stack these wins. Some are concrete victories—laws signed, elections won, charges filed. Some are the regime getting exposed or people fighting back. All of them are proof the resistance is hitting back harder than they want you to know. Eight wins. Seven days. Here we go. 1. The Senate’s referee killed a billion-dollar ballroom heist. Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled that Republicans broke Senate rules when they tried to slip $1 billion into a Secret Service bill—including $220 million for Trump’s “free” ballroom. Trump phoned Majority Leader Thune and demanded she be fired. She still has her job. Trump lost his billion. 2. Two Jan 6 officers turned Trump into a defendant again. Jan 6 heroes Daniel Hodges and Harry Dunn sued this week to dissolve Trump’s $1.776 billion slush fund—the taxpayer-funded pot of money built to pay off the rioters who attacked them. Their lead lawyer is Brendan Ballou, the Jan 6 prosecutor who quit the DOJ over Trump’s pardons of the insurrectionists. The men who held the line in 2021 are still making Trump answer for it. 3. Trump’s secret tax shield collapsed before lunch. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche quietly posted a memo claiming the IRS could never again investigate Trump or his businesses for tax fraud. Sen. Ron Wyden caught it within hours and called it “completely invalid.” Even Blanche’s allies admitted he had no authority to sign it. They tried to do it in the dark—the light got there first. 4. Hennepin County charges another ICE agent. ICE Agent Christian Castro shot a Venezuelan immigrant through his front door and allegedly lied about it. He’s the second ICE agent in Minnesota charged with felony assault this year. ICE thought the badge meant immunity. They were wrong. 5. Nine prosecutors told Trump’s goons their badge won’t protect them. They formed a coalition called FAFO—Fight Against Federal Overreach. Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner was direct: anyone who intimidates voters at the polls “is going to find out what ‘find out’ means.” The regime thought federal power meant unchecked power. Nine major cities just told them otherwise. 6. The NAACP and Congressional Black Caucus hit the South where it hurts. The NAACP told Black athletes to boycott eight gerrymandering Southern states. And the Congressional Black Caucus killed the bill college sports leagues wanted most. Two different efforts. One message: the South does not get to take Black political power without a fight. 7. Mississippi marched for the vote. Thousands marched on Wednesday in Jackson, past Gov. Tate Reeves’s mansion. Reeves had called Rep. Bennie Thompson’s 33-year career in Congress a “reign of terror” for registering Black voters. Thompson took the stage and answered him: “Between now and November, you better hold on.” 8. Georgia handed Keisha Lance Bottoms a 57% victory. The former Atlanta mayor won the Democratic gubernatorial primary outright on the first ballot. Georgia has not elected a Democratic governor since 1998. In November, she could become the first Black woman ever elected governor in American history. Eight wins in seven days. The regime is loud. The resistance is louder. And we aren’t slowing down. I’ve been fighting Trump for more than a decade now. We were one of the first anti-Trump groups ever. We investigated and covered Trump’s Epstein and Russia scandals before the big papers would even touch them. This week, I launched the Watchdog Coalition Against Trump’s Corruption—alongside the Democratic Coalition and its affiliate groups, elected officials, labor union leaders, and progressive organizations from across the country. The mission is simple: expose every piece of Trump’s corruption and use it to flip the House and Senate in the midterms. Millions of phone calls and emails to Congress. Stories that reach 178 countries. Billions of social media impressions every month. No ads. No corporation. No billionaire. Just reader-powered journalism that will never relent. Never bend a knee. Never give up. And never surrender to Trump. Help us hit 25 new paid subscribers this weekend: Onward! Scott What was your favorite win from this week? Keep it up! Thanks Scott—-amongst all the disgusting things this admin is doing it helps to read there are good things going on! Have a peaceful (hopefully) Memorial Day weekend everyone. TRUMP OUTDOES HIMSELF IN DETONATING ANOTHER DISTRACTION FROM HIS CORRUPTION AND PERVERSIONS Yesterday, Trump ordered the deportations of hundreds of thousands of people with jobs, homes and families in the U.S., who are awaiting the processing of their applications for Green Cards, to return to their countries of origin to apply for permanent visas. It is expected that ICE agents will be taking the lead in physically enforcing this order. As cruel and bizarre as this action may be, it may not necessarily be attributed to Trump’s madness, viciousness and mental instability. On the contrary, it may fit his crafty pattern of creating a crisis as a strategy to deflect the public’s mind off of far more serious misconduct by Trump himself. Trump’s action today to order his goons to eject hundreds of thousands of residents awaiting green cards appears to fit a pattern that we have been increasingly seeing ever since he first discovered how his initial surprise bombing of Iran almost totally distracted the American people from the utterly humiliating birthday military parade he threw for himself. Trump thereafter deployed this strategy of distractions on occasions when he was faced with political setbacks, potentially humiliating disclosures, or other occasions when his poll ratings took a deep dive. His most blatant distractions have been during the Epstein hearings and disclosures and included his indiscriminate murders on the high seas of drug smugglers, whom he renamed “narco-terrorists” to make them more target justifiable, his invasion of Venezuela and the arrest of their President, his threats to seize Greenland, his second wave of bombing of Iran and this threats to destroy their civilization unless they submitted to his will. It is not coincidental that Trump’s order today to eject these hundreds of thousands of residents from the U.S., comes within hours after Trump was thoroughly humiliated by the revelation that his own party has refused to fund his gold encrusted ball room and, more importantly, refused to support the plot he worked out with his Acting Attorney General to divert $1.7 billion dollars in taxpayer money to a slush fund for him to personally control and disburse, including payments to his co-conspirators who who were convicted after trial of storming the Capitol and leaving dead bodies in their wake. There is, of course, the issue of whether Donald Trump, alone and unilaterally without the consent of Congress, has the sole right to arbitrarily order that these hundreds of thousands of residents awaiting green card be ejected from the United States. It’s inconceivable that Trump has this unilateral right. For one thing, while not legally applicable, Trump’s order smacks of an ex post facto order or law. An ex post facto law, which is prohibited by the U.S. Constitution, is a law that retroactively makes conduct criminal, increases punishment, or worsens the legal consequences of an act after it was committed. Simply put, the government can’t say, “That thing you did last year was legal then, but we now declare it criminal and punish you for it.” While, this doctrine may not literally apply to Trump’s order today, the principle does. These people have been here legally and awaiting the processing of their green card applications. They have jobs, homes and families here. It is simply unfair, un-American and so alien to our inherent sense of fairness to allow Trump’s unilateral order to be enforced. But perhaps that is not Trump’s end game. Given Trump’s utter humiliation in being denounced for expecting the American taxpayers to pay $500 million for his gold-encrusted ballroom and another $1.7 billion taxpayer dollars for his personal slush fund to disburse as he pleases, Mr. 3-Card Monte needed an immediate shock-wave to get the American people to look the other way, and that’s what this is really all about. You hit the nail on the head. And these are tantrums of a wannabe Mafioso. Pretty obvious misguided distractions, I’d say. But he just wants to pass his pain on to someone else. “Hurt people want to hurt people.” Very, very sad. I wish we could nip it in the bud in the moment because it takes the courts so long to correct the misdeeds. The general impulses are his, but complex machinations are beyond his short attention span and cognition. The true architect of all this evil is that cabal of Miller, maybe Bannon, Vought, with input from the rest of the Xtian nationalist movement Don’t forget Peter Thiel. I wish I could ⬆️"Trump’s action today to order his goons to eject hundreds of thousands of residents awaiting green cards..." Not everyone seeking green cards are asylees or people granted temporary protected status. They include spouses and family members of US citizens, people in the US on valid work permits and newly minted PhDs in STEM fields and Med school graduates. I know Trump and Steven Miller are giddy about the idea of kicking out black and brown people, but there are a lot of European and Asian multinational corporations with facilities in the US that bring people in from corporate headquarters. I have already read about Canada taking advantage of Trump's missteps due to the poorly-thought-out tariffs. This most recent bee in Trump's bonnet about green card holders could exacerbate the problem further and accelerate the Brain Drain and limit future foreign investment in the US. Favorite this week: Elizabeth the Parliamentarian!!! Standing strong. AWESOME. Because contrary to what the conservatives have crowed about and done these past decades, right and wrong are not political. Hoping this initial pushback on Trumps scandalous “settlement” and slush fund grows and grows until it’s dead in the water! Totally behind boycotting the 8 SEC states, as well I’m committed to not sending a red cent to my alma maters: UT Austin and UT Knoxville. Texas and Tennessee won’t see another penny from me and I hope other alumni of the 8 states do the same. Let our voices be heard through out bank accounts… Absolutely. And I will never travel to a red state for any reason whatsoever. Includes TENNESSEE< very ORANGE We've been boycotting Florida and all Red States that are extremely gerrymandered. The majority of Americans should boycott these Red States. We'll be heading back to Phillie PA, NJ and NYC next month on vacation. We are going to spend our thousands of vacation dollars in blue states that respect Americans. 🇺🇸🗽💪👍👏 Let’s not forget that it’s not just southern states that have gerrymandered their maps. Ohio has too despite the State Supreme Court declaring the maps unconstitutional 4 times. Ohio State should be included in any efforts to counteract voting rights. OHIO is BAFFLING! Gerrymandering kept GYM Jordan in office...why? REPUBLICANS screwed rate payers buying crumbling power plants, lots of corruption that activists attempted to protest but were attacked. RICO TRIAL ended in REPUBLICAN CONVICTIONS and 2 SUICIDES including the man charged with RATE SETTING who was paid MILLIONS. That was before the TRAIN CRASH that spewed TOXIC FUMES across neighborhoods - FIRST RESPONDERS: unprotected & uninformed of the TOXIC CHEMICALS that spread across state lines. In this day and age, we know how to address TOXIC CHEMICALS. How come OHIO voters keep electing INCOMPETENT BOOBS that fail to protect them? This is a fine smorgasbord of good news from which to choose; however, being from MN I will have to choose Hennipin County attorney Mary Moriarty's charging ICE agent Christian Castro (#4). With two murders yet to be addressed, I am confident he will not be the last ICE agent charged by Ms. Moriarty. Really warms my heart to see it listed out like this. Not a bad week at all! Keep it up, everyone! Sweet and succinct news of the week, Scott! I am doing my happy dance! My favorite win is my beloved Sen Ron Wyden calling foul on tRumps tax fraud scam. BTW WHEN ARE WE GOING TO INVOKE THE 25TH AMENDMENT? #47 HAS BONA FIDE DEMENTIA!!!!! I eagerly await the day when Blanche goes to prison for obstruction, perjury, treason, judicial misconduct, etc. All the wins are great but if forced to choose just one, it would be #8. I love it when Black folks prevail in the South! Are Republicans finally growing a spine? Here's hoping! Nope. They are getting desperate. There’s a difference. I think you are right! Nevertheless, I welcome this change I’m excited about Keisha Lance Bottoms running for governor of Georgia. I hope she wins big in November. Keep the independent news coming! The truth matters. Dtrump is a self-centered freak who has opened the door to the mob. Resist! You know what? This simple sentence sums up how we spend at least 50-75% of our time surviving under the massive weight of trump/corruption: “[trump’s regime] tried to do it in the dark—the light got there first.” We have all become human-shaped spotlights, trying to root out the dark forces as they try to take total control. We have a LOT of shining to do. Yes! I protested in the 60's and am doing the same now! There are more of us than MAGA can even fathom in their closed racist rotting brains! Tried to call us the snowflakes! Nope! They won't know what hit them before we are through. VOTE! 🌬🌨🌪🌊 Favorite win #6. Boycott by Black college athletes in states doing anti-Black gerrymandering will: 1) be widely visible, 2) show the power on nonviolent noncooperation by ordinary people, 3) highlight the dependence of winning football and basketball teams on Black athletes. Go for it! I think my favorite win is the blocking of the sports bill and the boycott. It shows the creativity we need to maintain when direct action just isn't enough. Thank you Scott for all the great news. I can feel the power in the people and I hope Trump and his friends are all sweating, having diarrhea and are close to vomiting all the time. With this being memorial day weekend, my husband was a veteran. He was an honorable man who served as a Corpsman in the Navy. He saved a lot of lives but lost his life due to esophageal cancer related to the burning of the oil fields. He is buried in Fort Jackson, SC but I am now living up in New York so I can be close to my family. I will be going to a National Cemetery close to me on Monday so I can sit and reflect on the wonderful eight years of my life that I had with him. He is greatly missed but he is now in Heaven and I look forward to the day when I will be joining him there. From the newsletter DAILY DOSE OF DEMOCRACY: Senate Republicans say "fuck this" and go home after rebelling over Trump's J6 terrorist slush fund Senate Republicans have had enough of Trump's bullshit, and they are NOT happy. After 25 Senators spent over an hour yelling at Attorney General Todd Blanche in a "very hostile" meeting over Trump's plan to reward cop-beating terrorists with million of dollars, Majority Leader John Thune canceled votes on the reconciliation bill Trump wants to pay for ICE, cancelled a meeting with the White House, and sent everybody home. This ensures that they will NOT hit the Trump-imposed June 1st deadline to fund ICE, in yet another symbolic rebuke to the president. Thune told reporters that the J6 fund “ makes everything way harder than it should be” and that it “would have been nice if they had consulted” senators. “Our majority is melting down before our eyes,” texted one Senate aide to Punchbowl’s Andrew Desiderio. While we're sure these spineless cowards will eventually cave and give Trump what he wants, it is a sign that there are some very bumpy waters ahead for Trump and his agenda...and it's all his fault! CUBA NEXT? DEMENTIA DON's not gonna stop! This from MOTHER JONES: The Trump administration has a tendency to antagonize America's neighbors: perpetual threats to buy, annex, or conquer Greenland, illegal strikes against Caribbean fishing boats, and the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Throughout it all, Trump’s imperial ambitions have zoned in on one small island: Cuba. “Other presidents have looked at [Cuba] for 50, 60 years, doing something,” Trump said on Thursday. “And it looks like I’ll be the one that does it...I would be happy to do it.” The US has kept Cuba under a trade embargo since the 1960s. And for about the past four months, America has blockaded oil tankers from docking on the island. Two weeks ago, Cuban minister of energy Vicente de la O Levy warned that the island of nearly 11 million people had run out of oil. As Reveal’s Laura Morel reported, Cuba's once-vaunted hospital system is now on the brink of collapse. This week, Trump’s Justice Department further threatened Cuba, unsealing an indictment charging 94-year-old former Cuban head of state Raúl Castro with murder and conspiracy to kill US citizens—which might signal a forthcoming attempt to abduct Castro from the country. This "maximum pressure campaign," as Trump calls it, certainly isn't achieving its supposed goal of popular rebellion and regime change—only what UN experts call the “energy starvation” of Cuba. My colleague Alex Nguyen spoke with scholars and historians about how we got to this point. To cut through the bombast and learn what's at stake, read on. —Sophie Hurwitz Trump Has Finally Found a Small Enough Enemy He's "happy" to "do something" about Cuba—an island lacking fuel, power, and food—starting with its 94-year-old ex-leader.
