The Villages
Nearly 70%.
That was the percentage Donald Trump won Sumter County, Florida in 2024. You might know Sumter as home to The Villages, one of the largest retirement communities in the world. Maybe you’ve seen one of their famous golf cart parades. It has voted Republican in every Presidential election since 2000.
So, not really “friendly” territory for Democrats. But that’s why I went there. When I say I'm going to meet constituents everywhere and do what I can to represent all Floridians, I mean it!
Many politicians won’t go places where they might be grilled or asked hard questions. My opponent Ashley Moody hasn’t hosted a public town hall in over a year.
That’s not who I am.
Donald Trump recently held his first rally in Florida since winning the election. As people were waiting in line, I asked to hear about what keeps them up at night.
I listened as veterans, schoolteachers, retirees, and many more told me about their lives. And I heard the same refrain we’ve been hearing across the state and political spectrum: Rising costs, unaffordable housing, and families feeling the squeeze.
Folks come to Florida chasing the promise of a beautiful life and retirement that they can afford. When they get here, the staggering cost of living and the crushing cost of housing is pushing families out. Seniors are struggling to pay for their health care. And Floridians everywhere are suffering under sky high gas prices due to another absurd war of choice.
I heard it over and over: How disappointed people are about yet another forever war that is risking American servicemembers' lives and wasting our tax dollars. People are tired of broken promises and politicians with completely misguided priorities.
The people in line to see Trump aren’t alone: They share the concerns of the Democrats and independents I met with when I traveled across Florida for our statewide tour. I heard the same stories throughout all 34 of our events across the state.
I want to drive that point home: There is much that unites us.
The media profits from our divisions. Career politicians are more focused on adding to their power and wealth and insider squabbles than solving real problems. But we, the people, want many of the same things.
We want to know that our government is working for all of us — not just those at the very top. We want our children to get the very best education. We want to believe that our best days are ahead.
But people are struggling right now, and our so-called “leaders” like Ashley Moody are actively throwing gasoline on the fire. It’s time to shake things up.

When I came to this Trump rally, I didn’t expect to win over every voter. But as someone running to represent ALL 23 million people in Florida, it is crucially important to know what is on their minds.
This is a big-tent campaign, and everyone is welcome. I’ll keep working to listen to as many voters as possible. If you’d like to help power our campaign, I hope you’ll consider making a donation to our campaign before the weekend ends.

If everyone reading this pitched in $17, we would have the resources to reach persuadable Florida voters and win this race…but not everyone can give, which is why we are humbly asking you:
