They came out by the thousands, under banners reading “Albania Is Not For Sale” and “Ivanka, Go Home”—some waving inflatable flamingos. In recent weeks, people flooded the streets of Tirana to stop Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump from paving over a protected stretch of their coastline—home to flamingos, sea turtles, and rare monk seals—for a $4 billion luxury resort.

Public pressure worked. This week, the country’s anti-corruption prosecutors didn’t just open an investigation into the deal—they froze the bank accounts of the company behind it. And after viral footage showed a private guard dragging a protester off a fenced-off public beach, police arrested the guard, and the European Union put Albania on notice that the whole mess threatens its path to membership.
The scale of this is hard to overstate. Trump’s own son-in-law—the man supposedly brokering peace in the Middle East—now has a foreign government freezing the assets behind his resort, forced into the open by people an ocean away.

Bishara Bahbah, a scholar who helped the regime negotiate with Hamas, didn’t soften it. The committee can’t even begin to rebuild, he said, citing “a lack of any funding to enable them to execute anything on the ground.”

UNT Dallas—the only public four-year school in the city’s southern sector, where seven in ten students are the first in their family to go to college—is making tuition free. The Trailblazer Tuition Trust opens this fall: any qualifying student from a family earning $100,000 or less pays nothing for tuition and fees, for up to four years.
Incoming freshman Madeline Rodriguez almost didn’t try. “Should I even do college?” she remembers thinking. “Because I can’t pay for all of it, I really can’t.” Now, she can.
The regime’s trying to slam doors shut. UNT Dallas just kicked one wide open.
