FROM SCOTT DWORKIN:
The charge against Brad Lander was almost too small to say out loud: he sat peacefully in front of an elevator. The former NYC Comptroller had gone to 26 Federal Plaza last September to protest at an immigration court. The regime made a federal case out of it. Lander was zip-tied, arrested, and charged with obstruction.
The DOJ later offered him a plea deal. He turned it down. “I want a trial,” he said, vowing to keep protesting the regime’s immigration crackdown.
So they put him in front of a judge, and it didn’t last long. On June 11, after only one day, US Magistrate Judge Henry J. Ricardo found him not guilty, ruling the government could point to no real obstruction at all.
The regime put protest on trial and lost. Lander’s already vowing to be back.
'I did not assault anyone': NYC Comptroller Brad Lander shares details of ICE arrest
Yesterday’s primary elections sent a message about ICE that this administration is not going to like. In New Jersey's 12th district, voters resoundingly chose Dr. Adam Hamawy to replace retiring Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman. Watson Coleman was physically assaulted by ICE agents at Delaney Hall in New Jersey last year while exercising her lawful congressional oversight authority. The voters know exactly what happened to her and they chose someone who ran on making sure it never happens again. Hamawy ran on an unabashed platform of abolishing ICE and won by a wide margin. |
Analilia Mejia, who also ran on a platform of dismantling ICE, easily won her race back to Congress. In California, multiple candidates running on the same promise cleared their primaries with similar conviction. Abolishing ICE went from a fringe position to a winning electoral platform and it did not happen by accident. The public record we have been building at ResistMap for the past year is part of what got us here. Every detention death we logged and cover-up we documented has been building the evidentiary case that shifts public opinion. Chip in today to help us keep building it. When these fighters help deliver the House in November, they are going to walk into Washington with subpoena power and a mandate to investigate everything this administration has been doing to our communities. The record ResistMap has been building since day one is the foundation that makes those investigations possible. Every piece of our database is the kind of logged and verified documentation that turns congressional oversight into real accountability. A reckoning is coming for Trump's private army and we are making sure the evidence is airtight when it arrives. Chip in today to make sure that record is ready when the moment comes.
