He Voted to Let Them Charge Anything. Mario Diaz-Balart voted to scrap the rule that caps what insurance companies can charge people who are already sick. Nicole Locklin is running to take his seat. Blue On the Ballot Aug 9 There is a rule that says an insurance company cannot charge you more because you are sick. Mario Diaz-Balart voted to let states throw that rule out. Not to deny sick people coverage. Coverage would still be offered. There would just be no limit on the price. Diabetes. Cancer. A bad heart. Any of it, and the company picks the number. The number can be whatever they want. He voted yes. Somebody This Would Have Happened To Nicole Locklin’s older brother Greg had Marfan syndrome. He had open-heart surgery, and then more surgeries, on and off for ten years. He died at 37. Under the bill Diaz-Balart voted for, a company could have looked at Greg and named its price. Any price. That was the impact of Diaz-Balart’s vote. That is what it would’ve done to families across the country. Twenty-Three Years Diaz-Balart has held that seat since 2003. He also voted last year for the bill that cut about a trillion dollars out of Medicaid. He does not have to explain any of it. Nobody has made him in twenty-three years.
