ICE is hiding the evidence. Help us stop a cover-up. PART 2

I see a community in mourning and a family forever shattered.

A collage of 3 photos. On the top, a photo of Lorenzo’s eldest son breaking down in tears at the family press conference earlier this week. On the bottom, a member of the community sits on the curb next to the makeshift memorial where Lorenzo was killed, holding his head in his hands as he cries, and a large crowd gathering around the memorial at sunset with candles lit in his memory.

I look at Lorenzo, and I see my own father, who came to the U.S. from the Philippines with the same dream – to build a better life for our family and give us new opportunities.

Lorenzo’s story is the story of millions of American families. He should have been allowed to live that story to the fullest.

As the daughter of an immigrant, and someone who came to this country as an immigrant myself, these words from Ronaldo Salgado, Lorenzo’s eldest son, struck a chord:

"My father was a strong man and never wanted us to know if he was in pain. He never complained.’ Our government is led by weak men who constantly complain and benefit from others’ weakness. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a better American than they are."

Every American deserves to live in freedom according to our Constitution.

The facts of this case must be archived and independently investigated.

We cannot bring their father home. But we can bring them justice. Please consider a contribution today to support our independent investigative work documenting ICE’s crimes.
