Hey, Troy Jackson here. Working people in this country are getting screwed. For a long time I thought I was struggling because I wasn’t working hard enough, or I wasn’t good enough or smart enough, or something enough. I was wrong. Working-class people are just as smart and hardworking as anyone else in this country, including the billionaires and corporate CEOs padding their pockets off our backs. And the reason we’re struggling isn’t by chance or by laziness. We’re being crushed by a system that was designed to crush us.People are doing everything right and still can’t get ahead. We’re watching the price of groceries climb while food companies make record profits. Canceling doctor’s appointments and praying to God that we don’t get sick because we can’t afford another damn bill, while the health insurance industry just keeps getting richer. Rural communities are watching their jobs, hospitals, and schools disappear. And Susan Collins keeps telling us everything is just fine. They act like we’re idiots or something. We’re not. We know damn well things aren’t fine.We have eyes. We can see our paychecks going down and our bills going up. We know that we are getting screwed — and we also know who’s to blame. In the fall of 1996, Susan Collins made a promise that she would only serve two terms. That same fall, my father and I were watching work dry up in the logging industry. By the next spring, we had to sell what we had just to survive. Like millions of other people in Maine and around the country, I spent all my time just trying to figure out how to keep taking care of my family. 30 years later, Susan Collins is still in Washington, and working people are still breaking their backs trying to make a good living. Well, I’m done waiting around for Susan Collins to keep the promises she made three decades ago.The time is NOW to rise up and demand the government we deserve. And look: this isn’t about me or my campaign, and it’s not just about Democrats vs. Republicans. It’s about the very few ultra-rich who are getting even richer off our hard work vs. the rest of us — every single person who’s spent their life working day and night just to get by. We’re not from the left, we’re not from the right — we’re from the bottom, and we are rising.I know that if we fight this battle together, we can win it. So how about it — are you with me? Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate your support. —Troy |
