Today in Politics, Bulletin 484. 10/19/26
… As I promised months ago, I am ramping up my coverage of the midterms more and more as we get closer to the election. Although there is lots of very important foreign policy news that I am not going to ignore, the elections should dominate the Bulletins over the next few weeks. I am prepared to provide you the most comprehensive coverage possible each day of the key races across the country.
… NYT: “GOP Ad Blitz Targets Senate, Not House. Republicans have an enormous financial edge in this year’s midterms. But with two weeks until the election, it is now clear that their spending advantage is overwhelmingly playing out only in the advertising battle for the Senate - not the House.
… In the 7 Senate races that the Cook Political Report rated as tossups, Republicans are outspending Democrats on advertising by $947 million to $625 million. That is a breathtaking advantage of more than $320 million in the key races that could determine which party wins control of the Senate.”
… Politico: “Republicans are already starting to blame each other as the midterm election spirals further out of their control. Everyone is bracing for Trump’s ire if the party loses big in Nov. House Republicans are planning to accuse the Senate side.
… Trump political aides have taken to directly calling campaigns they feel aren’t performing well enough. National GOP operatives are quietly furious at lackluster candidates who didn’t do enough to prepare for a tough year despite early warnings. And some GOP candidates are pointing the finger back at their own party committees.
… House Republicans are annoyed with Senate Republicans for fumbling a once-safe GOP map as well as creating top-of-the-ticket drag for them with bad candidates in some key states - but senators privately put the onus on Trump for forcing out better Republican incumbents and then backing flawed GOP candidates, including Ken Paxton in TX.
… The top Senate GOP Super PAC and Trump’s MAGA Inc. have spent nearly $200 million alone to save Paxton, who’s locked in a tight race with Democrat James Talarico. There’s also particular frustration with Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), who numerous GOP operatives grumbled never took his race seriously and is now costing the party millions of dollars to rescue in a state Democrats haven’t won in almost a century.
… A GOP operative working on multiple House races: “No one in the world expected that the Senate would need as much money as they did. All of this money that was expected to go to the House, for the most part, is now being wasted on the Senate because they fucked up so bad.”
… Real Clear Politics: GOP consultants on Sen. John Husted (R-OH):
“Jon Husted looks like a quarterback, he talks like a quarterback, but he acts like a waterboy.”
“When the story is written on this campaign cycle, Sherrod Brown will have run the best race in the country. Jon Husted may have run the worst campaign in the country.”
… Democratic consultant John Anzalone: “That GOP money is bouncing off James Talarico and Adam Hamilton like a soft Fall breeze. And Talarico is single-handedly bankrupting the GOP.”
… NYT’s reporter Shane Goldmacher: “All that Republican money? It’s almost exclusively giving the GOP an edge in Senate TV ad spending - the spend in the House is practically equal. Another way to think of this chart: Republican donors are prioritizing saving the Senate over the House.”
… NYT: “Republicans in OH Are Worried About Turnout. Just two volunteers showed up on a recent weekday at a GOP campaign office near Cleveland that in 2024 was brimming with activity every night. Tanya Karabanovs sat among stacks of untouched yard signs and brainstormed new ways to convince her neighbors to vote for Republican candidates such as Jon Husted. Her most recent idea: stuffing chocolate bars into goodie bags with leftover campaign literature.”
… CNN: “GOP operatives conducting a focus group in a traditionally red Midwestern state this month were taken aback by what they heard from their own party’s voters. Asked what they blamed for rising gas prices, those voters pointed to ‘corrupt politicians’ and ‘billionaires’ - a response that surprised some longtime strategists who’ve never seen govt corruption emerge as a top issue for so many Republican voters in congressional races.
… Those observations in the reliably red farm belt are just one instance of a glaring pattern for Republicans, as their House battlefield expands into places like KY, WI and AR. Republicans involved in House races from TX to NY to FL have privately acknowledged to CNN they’re troubled by flashes of anger particularly from working-class voters with kids, whose gas and grocery prices are skyrocketing.
… One GOP consultant working on congressional races described the theme of corruption as an ‘underappreciated fact’ of this midterm, calling it a ‘two or three issue’ in polling even in reliably red seats this cycle.
… There are fears that Republicans could see a washout in parts of the country that are suffering the most from high fuel and grocery prices - where they worry many blue-collar workers are feeling ignored by the president who has focused much of his time on building a ballroom.”
… New University of Houston poll on Texas statewide races:
US Senate
🟦James Talarico 48%
🟥Ken Paxton 46%
🟨Ted Brown 3%
——
Texas Governor
🟥Greg Abbott 49% (incumbent)
🟦Gina Hinojosa 46%
🟨Pat Dixon 2%
… New National Public Affairs poll on Iowa statewide races:
US Senate
🟥Ashley Hinson 47%
🟦Josh Turek 44%
🟨Thomas Laehn 4%
——
Iowa Governor
🟦Rob Sand 50%
🟥Zach Lahn 45%
New Trafalgar poll on US Senate in SC:
🟥Darline Graham 48.6%
🟦Annie Andrews 45.6%
… WaPo: “Cypress, TX: There’s something missing in this conservative Houston suburb on the eve of early voting next Monday: Visible support for Republicans, particularly the embattled Senate candidate.
… In the sprawling Bridgeland subdivision, yard signs appear to favor Democratic state Rep. James Talarico over his rival, Ken Paxton. The signage gap matches recent polling, which shows Talarico, a 4-term state rep, either tied or several points ahead of Paxton, who has never lost an election in 25 years.
… Nowhere is that more clear than on Bridgeland’s Inspiration Drive, where voters on both sides of the political aisle say that Paxton, dogged by corruption scandals and accusations of infidelity, has lost support from a crucial segment of the electorate: suburban women.”
… Maria Kostecka, a retired preschool teacher, said female friends and neighbors have approached her expressing enthusiasm for Talarico, especially after she posted his campaign yard sign: “I start to feel like it’s this secret underground club who don’t want Paxton in office.”
… Politico: “As he weighs a presidential campaign, Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) is putting the finishing touches on one of the potential 2028 field’s best midterm scorecards: Kelly has backed 74 candidates and campaigned in 16 states, all while laying down $14.1 million for Democrats this cycle.
… Now, his midterm mission will take him to stops across 5 states, including the early Democratic nominating states NV, NM and NH. He’ll also hit ME, where he’ll stump for Democratic Senate nominee Troy Jackson, and his home state, where tomorrow he’ll stump alongside 18 endorsed state legislative candidates.”
… Punchbowl: “House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar has raised and donated a total of $40 million for House Democrats, Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party in the 2026 cycle. Aguilar’s fundraising represents a $10 million increase over the $30 million he chipped in during the 2024 cycle.
… Aguilar is expected to become majority whip next year if Democrats win the House. Being the House’s top vote counter would represent a big step up for the 47-year-old CA Democrat, who’s the youngest member of the House Democratic leadership trio.
… Over the past 6 months, Aguilar has traveled to nearly 50 districts across 16 states - Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
… The #3 House Democrat has held 44 events in that time span to benefit the DCCC, House Majority PAC, House Democrats and Democratic candidates. In the final sprint to Election Day, Aguilar is slated to participate in 20 more events to support candidates in a further 16 competitive House seats.”
… Punchbowl: “Trump will be on the road this week in KS, IA, NC, SC and FL – which all feature Senate contests. But notice the throughline here: every single one of these stops comes in safe Republican House districts. This means (mostly) Trump-friendly crowds.”
… Semafor: “Control of the US Senate for the next two years could come down to how much the news media chooses to focus in the final weeks of the midterms on a tweet sent years ago by the younger half-sister of Michigan’s Democratic Senate candidate.
… In 2012, Abdul El-Sayed’s half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, described ‘an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early ’70s.’ Republicans and members of the media have since pressed El-Sayed to answer whether he has ties to the Islamist movement.
… The subject is of particular interest at CBS News, where Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss has repeatedly encouraged the network’s journalists to dedicate serious resources to finding a potential link. In recent weeks, Weiss has personally advocated for CBS News journalists to pursue numerous story angles related to El-Sayed’s supposed sympathy towards the Muslim Brotherhood.
… She has discussed the topic on editorial calls, and tasked CBS News’ investigative unit with combing through El-Sayed’s background for a potential link to the org. The network’s investigative team is set to publish a story in the coming days on the subject.
… The politics of the Middle East and the conflict in Israel and Gaza remain red-hot inside the company, as a network leader with strong views on the region’s dynamics has attempted to shape its coverage of stories touching its spiraling conflicts. Rank-and-file staff have clashed with editors installed by Weiss over Gaza, leaking embarrassing internal network discussions about coverage.
… Weiss has taken a particularly hands-on approach to the MI Senate race, where campaign rhetoric has revolved around El-Sayed’s Muslim faith, and whether he can win over Jewish voters in the state. Last month Weiss faced criticism internally for overseeing an article that critics say falsely insinuated Abdul El-Sayed had ties to the 9/11 attacks.”
We have to record Ask the Editor tomorrow because I had a doctor’s appointment this morning that was an hour away, so I just barely had enough time to get this done today. Just a routine appointment but closest VA is pretty far. Sorry for the delay.
We make all our content available to free subscribers from now until election day. Normally about the first third of these are available for free subscribers. Lots of big election news over the next 3 weeks, so thanks to everyone keeping up with it here.
If you missed yesterday’s somewhat sprawling Bulletin recapping a busy weekend, you can find it here.
… Trump and Netanyahu held a campaign call on speaker phone where Trump endorsed the Israeli PM in his reelection, who released video of the call on social media:
Trump: “You’re a great warrior, and we will prove that very soon. I think you’re going to have a tremendous victory. You’re the man I want by my side, Bibi.
Netanyahu: “Donald, we have a job to finish. We will finish it together. We will finish it.”
… Trump posted on Truth Social: “To the Great People of Israel: Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior PM, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting Iran. Unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job. If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so. Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as PM of Israel.”
… Israel-based Iran specialist Danny Citrinowicz:
“I may be reading too much into this statement, and I certainly hope I am wrong. But it is hard not to interpret it as suggesting that Netanyahu promised Trump another joint military operation against Iran in exchange for his political support.
Netanyahu may have effectively committed Israel to another war with Iran to secure his political future, regardless of the potential consequences. If that is
indeed the case, it would be an extraordinary and troubling revelation. Israel cannot afford another war with Iran driven by political calculations rather than a genuine national security necessity.”
… Dr. Bishara Bahbah, founder of Arab Americans for Trump: “For the president of the US to endorse Netanyahu, a wanted man in most countries of the world, is a major betrayal of the Arab and Muslim Americans who voted for the president in 2024. I wonder how those Arab and Muslim Americans will return the favor on Nov. 3rd and in the 2028 presidential election.”
… Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a joint press conference with Russian FM Sergey Lavrov. Araghchi:
“The recent war in our region has demonstrated to the countries of the region that the presence of foreign forces and American military bases on their territory has contributed nothing to their security. On the contrary, it has undermined their security.
These bases were not only unable to protect their host countries, but they could not even defend themselves. All of them suffered heavy blows and were destroyed during the recent war. We welcome any initiative that leads to homegrown security and collective security arrangements among the countries of the region, without the presence or interference of foreign forces.
… Lavrov:
Russia has no intention of abandoning the implementation of its agreements with Iran in the economic and investment spheres. Our specialists are gradually returning to the Bushehr nuclear power plant. There are also major prospects for cooperation in the extraction and transportation of hydrocarbons.”
… WaPo: “For Iran’s leadership, the next few weeks are a critical window. Anticipating that Trump will be less sensitive to high energy prices after the midterm elections, Tehran is scrambling to inflict maximum pain now by escalating attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian officials and diplomats in the region.
… Iranian officials said their govt is focused on the Nov. 3 midterms and sees the window leading up to them as critical to exercising leverage over Trump. The result has been an escalation in violence in the Strait of Hormuz. As the US launched operations to encourage an increase in vessel traffic through the strait, Iran stepped up attacks on shipping to a rate not seen since the early days of the war.
… US forces are conducting massive, daily operations, with layers of fighter jets, drones and Special Ops forces, guiding and protecting vessel traffic that shuttles back and forth through the narrow waterway. Iranian attacks in the strait averaged around 30 a week in Sept. So far this month, Iran has attacked more than 20 vessels, one of which sank.”
… Zelenskyy this morning:
“A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. 6 people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old. Her mother’s name was Inna. Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. Another 14 people were injured, including 6 more children.
Ukraine needs air defense. You can’t think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law.
We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.”
… Ukrainian journalist Kate Bohuslavska:
“Having no warning about incoming ballistics is an issue deeply personal to every Kharkiv citizen. Because of our proximity to the border, and Western weapon use restrictions that were in place, we have lived through years of sudden Russian ballistic strikes.
I have written many times that I would give anything for the kind of warnings other cities receive. A warning that gives a chance to survive. Without it, people have none if they happen to be in the wrong place. That is why withholding this intelligence is terrifying. Today, ballistics slammed into Kyiv again without warning because launch data was not shared.
If it is deliberate, It is appalling. They saw the launch and simply chose not to share it. Warning us costs the US nothing, it takes away no resources, no money, no equipment. Yet they watched a missile head toward a capital of 3 million people and stayed silent, stripping innocent people of their chance to survive.
… NYT columnist Peter Baker: “It’s been a good week for Putin. In recent days, Trump has:
Struck a diesel deal lifting some sanctions
Restricted Starshield for Ukraine
Cut intel warnings of Russian missile launches against Ukraine for several days
Canceled Lindsey Graham sanctions
Demanded Ukraine dump Zelensky
Absolved Russia for helping Iran fight the US
Pushed Europe to resume buying Russian gas
… Ukrainian journalist Illia Ponomarenko:
I just love this one: ‘Ukraine, don’t antagonize Trump.’ Listen - from the very first day of his return to the WH (and even long before that), Ukraine has indulged his every whim and gone along with every one of his insane plans.
It has dutifully catered to his grotesque craving for the most nauseating flattery and joined everyone else in massaging his monstrous ego, singing in chorus the praises of his incredible leadership, talent, power, and divine beauty.
Ukraine, and Zelensky himself in particular, has turned a blind eye to and endured countless humiliations, insulting antics, idiotic outbursts on Truth Social, and hysterical spectacles like the Oval Office showdown.
Ukraine has unfailingly supported 100% of his ridiculous, nonsensical, and downright idiotic imaginary “ceasefires,” which Putin couldn’t have given less of a damn about. And yet Ukraine had to listen, over and over again, to accusations that it “doesn’t want peace,” responding to every such outrage with yet more praise for Trump and bending over backward to appease him, desperate not to give him the slightest excuse to accuse it of being “uncooperative.”
Meanwhile, Putin has spent all this time amusing himself, making a complete fool of Trump in front of the entire world, and openly spitting on every one of his frantic diplomatic maneuvers.
We’ve been living in this madhouse, where night has become day and day has become night, for almost two years now. And what? How’s that working out? What has all of this accomplished? More slaps in the face, and ultimately, Trump’s complete and final betrayal and his active decision to side with the Russian aggressor.
And somehow it’s Ukraine that’s “antagonizing” someone? At least have the decency to stop hiding behind this laughable victim-blaming and your invented alternate realities, and just come out and say it: “Just fucking die, all of you Ukrainians, so our idol can line his pockets with Kremlin money.”
… Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA):
“I will be speaking with Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring him that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head.
The US must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The US must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin.”
… Financial Times: “Cracks are appearing in America’s debt-laden $10 trillion AI infrastructure boom as project delays, public backlash and shaky investor confidence bring a reckoning for the data center build-out underpinning the US economy.
… A rush for computing power in recent years created what multiple people involved characterized as a ‘Wild West’ market. They said money has flooded into brand-new companies and due diligence for new projects has been expedited, with AI labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI accepting higher short-term costs to move as fast as possible.
… More than 3 years into the AI boom, these ambitious data center plans are running into reality. At least 47 large projects have been delayed, withdrawn or blocked in 2026. Analysts estimated only about 35% of the planned US data center pipeline was credible.
… AI labs and Big Tech groups have committed to spend trillions of dollars over the coming years on computing capacity. But those massive rewards can only be realised if a group of recently launched ‘neocloud’ data center providers first manage to finance the unprecedented construction effort. Higher interest rates and a souring bond market are now threatening their ambitions, and with them the AI build-out.”
… Axios: “Top Trump adviser Ric Grenell allegedly outlined a stunning pay-for-influence offer to a Turkish billionaire last year: access to ‘POTUS,’ ‘VIP events’ and admin officials, according to a text message, that the WH counsel is investigating. The May 3, 2025 text:
“Once the money comes to the company here, I will arrange the donation to Kennedy Centre [sic], and you’ll be joining the VIP events and get close with the administration, even with POTUS.”
… Admin officials say the text is a key piece of evidence in the WH’s investigation into whether Grenell abused the president’s trust and misappropriated a potential multimillion-dollar donation to the Kennedy Center, which Grenell led at the time. Grenell also served in another Trump-appointed capacity: as special envoy to Venezuela, where Turkish businessman Turhan Mildon also had contracts.
… Mildon is married to another Trump adviser: Alina Habba, who stormed into the Oval Office on Oct. 9 and accused Grenell of hoodwinking her husband into making a Kennedy Center donation that never arrived. It would be 17 months before Mildon learned that the Kennedy Center never received the money that he thought was included in the wire he sent at Grenell's direction, Habba told the president.”
… One admin official said when Habba arrived at the WH, she was “pretty animated,” and exclaimed at one point, “Ric stole the money!”
… Trump made another post attacking Fox this morning: “Fox spends more time defending Dumocrats, and putting on their views versus their Republican opponent, than at any time in the History of FoxNews. It’s ridiculous! FoxNews is trying too hard to be Politically Correct!”
… Trump held a press event today outside the WH with Melania (who read a brief statement and took no questions. She announced the creations of a new special dept on HHS dedicated to women’s health. Trump:
“This task force will be focused on improving women’s health. This task force will be led by RFK Jr. That’s a big one - he’s been fantastic. He’s a little different, but that’s what makes him good.”
"That stone is so beautiful. And see the cushions? Those beautiful yellow cushions? Don't they feel nice? I have them specially made. And you have the new heliport and ballroom."
… Trump then gave Melania a kiss at the end of the event. This is as far as she is contractually obligated to go under the 4th amended renegotiated prenup.
… WH economic advisor Kevin Hassett did his weekly bit smiling and lying about the economy on CNBC:
"If economic polls were correct, then people wouldn't be taking trips to nice hotels, they wouldn't be flying, they wouldn't be buying cars, they wouldn't be doing all the things they do when they're feeling good about the economy. People are acting like we're in a boom. We are in a boom."
… Hassett needs to get outside DC into the rest of the country once in a while. Not that he cares to.
Q - “In the last few months, didn't it flip where wage growth was slightly below the rate of inflation? Hassett: Just for a couple months in a row. Q - How many straight month have wages underperformed inflation? Hassett: It was the last two or three.”
… The answer is SIX. Inflation has outpaced wage growth for 6 consecutive months.
Q - We have never seen Americans so sour on the economy. Hassett: The thing about the sour - it's a highly partisan time where emotions are high, and when you look at surveys, the Democrats in these surveys think we're in the Great Depression. Republicans think things are fine.”
… ProPublica: “A few months into Trump’s second term, political appointees at the DHS made an unusual request of its agency focused on cybersecurity: Secretly acquire a voting machine and hack it.
… The appointees wanted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to procure the machine, examine it and report back the findings so they could be given to the WH. The proposition was shocking to CISA’s career staffers. CISA typically worked to thwart hackers. The request made the CISA employees fear they were being asked to take part in political interference.”
… One former CISA official: “My thought was they could keep it in their back pocket to invalidate any [election] results they don’t like. This goes against everything CISA represents.”
… “The CISA employees repeatedly told the political appointees that their request was impossible, in part because the agents capable of pulling off such an operation had just been laid off by Elon Musk’s DOGE. The appointees eventually stopped pressing CISA.
… In Trump’s second term, his admin has laid off or pushed out more than 1,000 CISA employees, shrinking the agency by about one-third. The president’s 2027 budget proposal would reduce funding for the agency by another $700 million, which could necessitate 900 additional layoffs.
… In response, Democratic lawmakers have called for an investigation into CISA’s ability to do its job and demanded answers as to why federal funds are not being used to support election security as directed by Congress.”
… 60 Minutes: “Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson denied a DOJ request for UT’s voter registration list, which includes voters’ confidential personal info. It's a kind of interference that Henderson, a Republican in a deeply red state, said she's never seen before:
“In the past two elections that I oversaw as Lt. Gov, the threats were all external: non-state actors, cyber security threats and other things. But now we also have threats coming from within our own govt.”
"I have to tell myself it doesn't matter what the consequences are, as long as I feel like I'm doing what's right. I think this is an important thing for me to do, holding these guard rails, holding the line. Someone has to."
"We are seeing a trend of candidates who lose races now refusing to concede, saying it was rigged, saying it wasn't fair, even when it isn't close. Candidates who lose can do so much good by graciously conceding. That will instill confidence in the public."
… Florida Trident: “The Republican Party of FL wants a judge to pull a Democratic TV ad about the Hope Florida grand jury report. It says airing the report's ‘content, gist, or import’ is now a crime. The lawsuit targets the FL Democratic Party, its 3 statewide candidates and 11 TV stations in Orlando and Tampa Bay.
… The party also referred the stations to FDLE and prosecutors. One copy went to the statewide prosecutor, who works in AG James Uthmeier's office. Uthmeier is the candidate the ad targets. What the lawsuit leaves out:
The grand jury report has been public since Aug. 26.
The appeals court ruling it relies on isn't final until Friday at the earliest.
The US Supreme Court struck down part of the same secrecy law in 1990.
… Hours before the court hearing began before US District Judge Ana Reyes on the DC golf course demolition and arboretum ecocide, Trump personally attacked the judge on Truth Social:
“The judge on the case is a crazed lunatic whose courthouse tapes will reveal, may be insane? The tapes have been blocked from usage by the judge. The random golfer bringing the ridiculous lawsuit has ZERO STANDING! The experts at ‘Interior’ are allowed to do this First Class renovation ‘as of right.’ They do not need an approval. Work is scheduled to begin IMMEDIATELY!”
… ABC: “A contentious hearing today in DC, where lawyers for the Trump admin faced off with a federal judge pushing for answers over whether she was deliberately misled by the govt over why it removed hundreds of trees from a local public golf course.
… Judge Ana Reyes has ordered testimony from Interior Dept official Gregory Wischer and acting Director of the National Park Service Jessica Bowron over why the govt moved abruptly on Columbus Day weekend to remove more than 500 trees from East Potomac golf course without giving her proper advance notice.
… The hearing immediately got off to a contentious start as Associate AG Stanley Woodward, DOJ’s No. 3-ranked official, and Judge Reyes clashed over why none of DOJ’s lawyers on the East Potomac case have joined him in signing his recent legal briefs.
… Woodward said he would instruct each attorney not to answer Reyes’ question, after which Reyes ordered Woodward to submit a brief by 3 PM Monday explaining the legal rationale behind that instruction.
… Wischer, a political appointee, has sought to maintain that the tree removals were entirely about ‘cleaning up the course’ and not tied to Trump's renovation efforts.”
… Adam Klasfeld with All Rise News: “Trump canceled his scheduled Oct. 16 deposition in his lawsuit against the BBC because of ‘matters of national importance.’
The BBC alerts the judge that those matters were: a rally in Dalton, GA and a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago.”
… Trump is the one who filed the lawsuit against the BBC. The BBC’s lawyers came back at him hard with some serious discovery about J6 and now Trump doesn’t want to participate.
