A Washington grand jury, a doctor surging in South Carolina, Trump’s ignored orders in Alaska, and the small town Google couldn’t steamroll.

The Grand Jury Told Trump No
Cassidy Hutchinson was serving as a White House aide to Trump’s chief of staff on January 6, 2021. In 2022, Hutchinson testified in front of Congress and told them what Trump did that day. She told the committee her loyalty was “with the truth.” Trump called her a “total phony.”
Republican Reps. Jim Jordan and Barry Loudermilk sent a criminal referral about her to the DOJ. This month, Trump’s prosecutors took her case to a grand jury.
On Tuesday, a DOJ lawyer stood in front of Judge Zia Faruqui in Washington and said the jurors had refused to indict. People familiar with the matter told the Washington Post it was Hutchinson’s case. She never even had to testify. The jurors heard the regime’s side and said no.
This isn’t the first time. In February, another grand jury refused to indict Democratic lawmakers over a video reminding troops they don’t have to follow illegal orders.
Trump wants the DOJ to punish anyone who he thinks is an enemy. At least twice this year, grand juries stopped him cold. On Tuesday, millions of us get to do the same thing with a ballot.

A Pediatrician Has Trump Worried In South
Carolina
The state of South Carolina hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. Just two years ago, Trump won the state by nearly 18 points. When Sen. Lindsey Graham died over the summer, his sister Darline was appointed to the seat. In August she admitted, “I’m not that informed on national security.”
On Wednesday, a New York Times/Siena poll had her tied at 48 percent with pediatrician and Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews. Other polls this week have Graham up by one to four.
Trump flew to Rock Hill to rally for Graham on Thursday, his second trip to the state in eight days. He told the crowd that polls can’t be trusted, but nobody visits the same state twice in eight days when they think their lead is secure.
According to the new poll, Dr. Andrews is winning 59 percent of independents, and even 22 percent of Republicans. She said: “Whether you voted for Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham, or anyone else, if you care more about your bills than the politics in Washington, this campaign is for you.”
Trump endorsed an appointed senator who admits she doesn’t know national security, and now he’s begging South Carolina to save her. On Tuesday, a doctor could send her home.

Trump Told Alaska Republicans To Quit.
Nobody Did.
At a rally in Wasilla, Alaska, on October 13, Trump endorsed Bernadette Wilson for governor. He asked the other two Republicans in the race to drop out so they wouldn’t split the vote. One of them is former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson, the other is former state Attorney General Treg Taylor.
Neither of them listened. Bronson kept campaigning, and Taylor refused to bow out.
The only Democrat in the race now is former state Rep. Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. He led a September New York Times/Siena poll with 40 percent. It had Wilson at 20, Bronson at 15, and Taylor at 11. Kreiss-Tomkins has raised more money than any of them.
On Tuesday, three former Alaska governors endorsed Kreiss-Tomkins together in the Anchorage Daily News. One is a Democrat, one is an independent, and one is a Republican. GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski backed him that same day, even though she’s still supporting Trump’s candidate, incumbent Dan Sullivan, in the Senate race.
This week, the DOJ’s in court trying to stop Alaska from certifying its Senate results if Mary Peltola wins.
Trump told two of the Republicans still in the race to drop out. They decided to ignore him. Now a Democrat is leading the race for governor. Trump can’t even force Republicans into line anymore. He definitely can’t force the rest of us. On Tuesday, we get to show that to the world.

One Small Town Made Google Pay Up
In July 2025, Trump signed an order telling federal agencies to speed up permits for data centers. Last fall, people in Hermantown, Minnesota, found out a giant data center was coming to their town. Their local officials had signed secrecy agreements, so nobody knew who was behind it until March, when they found out it was Google.
I read the draft development agreement. Google wanted up to $80 million in property tax breaks, and the agreement says the project was “not reasonably likely to occur absent tax abatements.”
Sarah Lofald lives in Hermantown and sits on the board of a group called Stop the Hermantown Data Center. She and her neighbors packed council meetings and sued the city. On October 14, Google dropped the tax breaks.
It also cut the project down to three buildings, while agreeing to pay homeowners back if the project hurts their water wells. And if Google ever abandons the data center, they have to pay to tear it down. Google claims they’ve never signed a deal like this before.
Monday night, a line of residents waited outside the council chambers to sign up to speak, but city officials cut off sign-ups before they reached the front. So the crowd sat on the floor and chanted “Let us speak!” Two hours later, the city canceled the meeting and rescheduled it for Friday—capping the audience at 85 people.
On Friday night, the council approved the project unanimously. Three lawsuits are still alive, and a judge hears one of them on December 8.
Trump did everything he could for Google. A town of 10,000 people still made Google give up $80 million in tax breaks and sign promises it had never made anywhere. Imagine what we can do on Tuesday.

The Morning Briefing: Two Days Out
The forecasters keep finding Republicans in trouble in places they never planned to defend.
The Senate comes down to seven states: AK, IA, KS, ME, MI, OH, and TX. I checked both forecasters. Cook Political Report has all seven as toss-ups, and Sabato says the majority runs through every one of them. All but Michigan are currently Republican seats. As of Tuesday, Democrats led the polling average in all seven, none by more than 4 points.
The hardest to call. Sabato’s Crystal Ball wrote that Maine and Texas are the two hardest races to call this year. It also wrote that they’re the two most likely to decide the majority. Sabato expects Democrats to win at least one of them, and maybe both.
The House. Cook has 222 seats leaning our way and Sabato has 225. You need 218. On Tuesday, Sabato moved two more Republican seats our way: Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti is leading Rep. Rob Bresnahan in Pennsylvania, and Bobby Pulido leads Rep. Monica De La Cruz 51 to 44 in Texas.
Trump did this to them. Rep. Richard Hudson chairs the NRCC, the committee that’s supposed to win House seats for Republicans. He won his North Carolina seat by almost 19 points two years ago, which is about as safe as a seat gets. Cook moved it to Likely Republican anyway. And according to Sabato, the NRCC has even had to give its own chairman “a little help.”
Breaking records. On Thursday afternoon, Georgia passed its 2022 record of 2,289,951 in-person early votes. By the end of early voting on Friday, the total was about 2.8 million. Texas set a new midterm record with more than 7.4 million early votes, and North Carolina was nearly 37% ahead of its 2022 pace as of Tuesday. Nationally, more than 53 million of us had already voted by Sunday morning, per the University of Florida’s Election Lab.
The Bottom Line: Hold Michigan, flip North Carolina and three more, and the Senate is ours. Both forecasters already have us past 218 in the House. No matter what, we sprint through the finish line.
Two days left. The ads are bought and the polling is pretty much done. All that matters now is getting people to vote. Every day, as soon as we hit publish, we go right back to doing exactly that, and we’re not slowing down now.

Why do you want to impeach John Roberts? Is it just because he lacks what can and should be an elementary school level understanding of the "justice" concept? What if, instead, a delegation of fifth graders could be sent to the Supreme Court to explain the concept?
Injustice is some combination of enabling and retribution. Justice is restorative, meaning neither enabling nor retribution.

I am most excited about my local House race, NY 17!! My wife and I have been Team Cait since the primary. We are so anxious for her to beat Maga Mike Lawler, the faux moderate who is also a pretty nasty human being. However, it is not going to be an easy victory and we are on the edges of our seats! My wife is out canvassing again today. Lawler's team has been paying canvassers handsomely with all the money they received from Elon Musk. We are running on sheer devotion to our candidate and belief that she is someone who will really be a change maker in DC.
That said, I am also so interested in news coming out of Louisiana and Mississippi! We all have PTSD and barely dare to dream, but ... WHAT IF????

I'm hoping that many Republicans will put courage before party and understand that while some harbor GOP traditions dating back to President Eisenhower, the party and its principles of that era are no longer. It is time to put the country and our future direction in the hands of people with integrity, vision, and will put America back on a course toward the rule of law, equality, and democracy. A course opposite our present direction of blatant corruption, debt, incompetence, isolationism, and forever wars.
President Eisenhower would be appalled and revolted by what his party has become.
I'm feeling nervous but hopeful. People were in line until almost 9pm for the primary where I was a poll worker which is insane so I'm hoping we smash turnout records!

Scott, as a 30 year summer resident of Maine, I’m most nervous about Maine. Maine is a difficult state to predict. Southern Maine is very different from Northern Maine. The former is more cosmopolitan and the latter is more gritty. Jackson represents northern Maine so his task is to get out the vote of his neighbors.
I'd add my own MN to the Senate list. It's now neck and neck between Flanagan (D) and Tafoya (R). It should be an easy win for Peggy Flanagan but it doesn't look that way! MN is being crucified for fraud problems that are miniscule in comparison to TX and FL, but that comparison never gets covered!
I am most excited (and nervous) about the FL governor's race (Jolly vs Donalds), the Senate race (Nixon vs Moody) and the FL-9 House race (Soto vs Green). I voted straight Democratic and trends look good, but this is FloriDUH.....

I am fortunate to live in a blue state, but I am super excited for Roy Cooper in NC as he was a fabulous governor who did a lot of good for the people in NC-even with Rep house and senate. I am excited and hopeful for every other challenger as well! I hope we can somehow educate our citizens about reality and maybe make it illegal for politicians AND the press to spout lies about political opponents-like Wales has done. Watching Jordan Klepper’s ‘Man On The Street’ interviews at the criminal’s rallies, I want to both cry and rage at how very many MAGAts are soooooo stupid and believe the lies they are being told. Let’s get this done and create a better society!
We may live in a blue state, but we need just as much volume in the blue states as anywhere else. People need to vote and not rest on the fact that it’s blue. You kids probably know by now I'm a poll worker in SoAZ. I'm cautiously hopeful, but there is no way I am ever trusting polls again. I've been telling everyone to VOTE EARLY if they haven't already, as my gut feeling is that Tuesday will be every bit as busy with long lines as 2024 was.
If you haven't voted yet:
1) PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BALLOT BEFORE YOU DROP IT INTO THE BALLOT BOX. Make sure it is marked the way you intended. If your voting center uses machines, sometimes they glitch and screw up, so just check it twice before you leave the voting booth. If you need help, ask for a poll worker to come over.
2) BE PATIENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME. You don't have to hurry if there are people waiting; you waited, too, you know. If you make a mistake on your ballot, you can ask the poll inspector to have that ballot "spoiled" and get a new one. But you can only ask twice, so take your time.
3) VOTE THE ENTIRE BALLOT. Your local issues are vital. Make sure your voice is heard on every one of them.
JUST VOTE.
