But, as Green America discovered when looking into leather production in Bangladesh , it’s also frequently made with toxic chemicals and child labor. And it’s not just Bangladesh, researchers are finding major problems – from destruction of the Amazon to animal abuse – in leather production around the world. And many vegan leathers are not much better, starting with, you guessed it, nasty chemicals and labor abuses. Corporations that are raking in profits bear the greatest responsibility for ensuring that workers, consumers, communities and the environment are protected from the creation of leather and leather alternatives.
