Trump is trying to bust Tina Peters out of prison...again

In a late night rant riddled with obvious falsehoods, Donald Trump once again took to “Truth” Social to demand the release of convicted felon Tina Peters. 


Tina Peters is the former Colorado county clerk who was convicted of state crimes for election interference, tampering with voting machines, and criminal impersonation.


Trump has made it his mission to strongarm and pressure Colorado’s Dem governor, Jared Polis, into granting Peters clemency. He even went so far as to issue his own pardon for Peters—a symbolic, meaningless gesture because she was only convicted of state crimes.

The lies in this one short post are staggering. Tina Peters is 70, not 73. She was convicted and sentenced by a jury of her peers in Colorado state court, not by Gov. Jared Polis. She does not currently have cancer. And the only election fraud taking place in Colorado in 2020 was by Peters herself, who betrayed the public’s trust placed in her as county clerk when she helped facilitate critical breaches of election security.


MAGA had previously taken up Trump’s call to arms (literally) by planning a half-baked prison break attempt at the end of January. The Colorado Turnout Project team helped expose their violent plot, stopping them in their tracks before things could escalate out of control. 


But now Trump is back at it, and Gov. Polis is even showing signs that he is considering giving in to Trump and offering clemency to Peters.


We can’t let this happen. It's time to step up our work to stop Trump.
