Paranoid Pete Hegseth has spent months trying to force Army Secretary Dan Driscoll out of the Pentagon. He fired Driscoll’s ally, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, right in the middle of Trump’s attacks on Iran. Driscoll refused for months to remove Black and female Army officers from the promotion list. Hegseth struck their names himself anyway—likely without the legal authority to do so. Driscoll is JD Vance’s Yale Law School friend—and the White House told Hegseth he can’t touch him. So he’s been trying to make him quit instead. A current US official said Hegseth is “just really uncomfortable with anyone who could potentially be outshining him.” The scheme is failing. Driscoll put it in writing on Tuesday: “I have no plans to depart or resign as the Secretary of the Army.” Retired Army reserve Col. Kevin Carroll summed up the internal battle: “It’s not like Driscoll is scheming and plotting to make Hegseth look bad.
