Republicans filed a lawsuit in Michigan to strip voting rights from US military spouses and dependents overseas. On top of the fact it’s horrible, they were ignoring longstanding federal law that protects those exact voters.
Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel dismissed it on Wednesday—the latest in a string of failed Republican attempts to kill the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act in court.
DNC Chair Ken Martin slammed the GOP for it: “The DNC will stop at nothing to prevent Republicans from cheating their way out of accountability in 2026.”
Republicans tried to steal votes from our troops. Everyone must remember that in November.

Roy Moore is the disgraced former Alabama Supreme Court Justice who lost the 2017 US Senate race to Doug Jones. He sued a Democratic super PAC that ran ads against him—initially, a jury awarded him $8.2 million.
But on Friday, the 11th Circuit unanimously threw out the ruling, in a decision written by a Trump appointee.
Attorney for the PAC Ezra Reese called it “a complete repudiation of Roy Moore’s pathetic seven-year effort to weaponize the courts … Alabama voters correctly decided that they did not want a disgusting creep like Roy Moore representing them in the United States Senate.”
Alabama rejected him in 2017. The courts finished the job.

Trump’s hand-picked US Attorney for DC, Jeanine Pirro, stood at a lectern on Wednesday morning and vowed to push forward with her criminal probe of Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
Forty-eight hours later she folded, closing an investigation her own prosecutor admitted had found no evidence of any crime—and that a federal judge called baseless.
It was never a real investigation—it was a threat designed to force Powell to cut interest rates. Republican Senator Thom Tillis forced Pirro’s hand, saying he’d block confirmation of Trump’s new Fed chair nominee until the probe was closed.
They didn’t find corruption at the Fed. But they sure demonstrated it at the DOJ.
COURT KILLS TRUMP’S ASYLUM BAN

A three-judge DC Circuit panel ruled on Friday that Trump’s executive order suspending asylum at the US southern border is illegal. Judge J. Michelle Childs wrote that a president can’t turn people away without a hearing, erase the right to apply for asylum, or deport people to countries where they will be tortured or killed.
Even his own appointee to the court—Judge Justin Walker—agreed with the core of the ruling. ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt said it was an essential decision for “those fleeing danger who have been denied even a hearing.”
The regime told the world it ended asylum at the border. This court just told the regime it’s not allowed to do that.

Trump's mail-in-ballot order puts Massachusetts voters in the crosshairs

Somewhere between 34 and 62 percent of Massachusetts voters cast mail-in ballots in any given election, but a recent executive order from President Trump threatens to upend that system and has prompted another legal clash over his attempts to wade into state election decisions via executive order.
Courts halted an order that attempted last year to introduce proof-of-citizenship requirements through the independent Election Assistance Commission.
The latest order, signed March 31, directs the Department of Homeland Security to compile a state-by-state citizenship list and orders the US Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to voters who appear on it. States that don't comply face the loss of federal funding and the threat of criminal prosecution of their election officials. Within days, at least four separate lawsuits had been filed to block it.
"What this would do, at a very high level, is insert the federal government – in a completely unprecedented way – between states and voters," said Davin Rosborough of the ACLU Voting Rights Project. "The president has no powers related to" mail voting, he said.
Rosborough and Celia Canavan of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts joined The Codcast this week to discuss one of the suits, filed in the US District Court for Massachusetts by a coalition of voting rights organizations represented by the ACLU and the Brennan Center for Justice. Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell co-led a separate 24-state lawsuit also filed the first week of April, before the same judge. A preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for June 2 in Boston, where both cases will be heard together.
A constitutional argument cuts across both Massachusetts-based suits: the president has no authority over elections.
The Constitution reserves that power to the states and Congress, and Rosborough said the administration is "grasping at straws" by drafting independent agencies – first the Election Assistance Commission in last year's executive order, now the Postal Service – into service as enforcement tools. Even if the president had some authority here, he argued, he can't direct USPS to violate the federal statutes that require it to operate as a neutral, non-discriminatory mail carrier.
Beyond that, both suits argue, the data the order relies on aren’t reliable. The primary database DHS would use – the SAVE system, originally built to check benefits eligibility – has already flagged eligible citizens as non-citizens when states have tried to use it. Social Security Administration records before 1981 didn't reliably track citizenship, Rosborough said, meaning older voters and naturalized citizens are disproportionately at risk of being wrongly excluded.
Trump has described mail-in voting fraud as "legendary" – an unfounded charge for which there is no evidence. According to the conservative Heritage Foundation's own election fraud database, Canavan notes, Massachusetts has had four documented cases.
Despite recapturing the White House in 2024, Trump continues harp on the false claim of widespread voter fraud, particularly in the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden. “This continues to be a dog whistle," Canavan said, "that our president is holding onto, especially with an election he lost six years ago."
In the episode, Rosborough and Canavan discuss the new rules created by the executive order (1:30), what the coalition learned from halting last year’s executive order on elections (16:00), and the pile-up of legal fights including 12 red states seeking to intervene in support of the order (27:00).

Yes, good memory! It seems quaint given all the other horrific stories we are hearing and seeing under Trump 2.0. Same guy who wants to put the 10 Commandments on huge posters in every classroom. Of course there are exceptions—but the money and privilege among bluebloods make it easier for them to escape accountability for their horrific exploitation so it’s just much more common among the stratosphere than among the hoi polloi - who are likely to be prosecuted and publicized.
The sheer number of poor people makes the raw number of crimes massive but they are usually caused by basic needs not being met and stem from childhood neglect, poverty and uncertainty of whether they will have adequate food, shelter or medical care or any certainty that their family’s basic needs will be met.
The Republicans get a large number of their votes by spreading lies and religious dogma, to frighten and control large swaths of people to vote against their own interests, by vilifying the bogeymen of race,nationality etc and that only THEY can or will stop the invasion of these people into our country that are taking away the jobs and diluting the religious unity and making the streets seem unsafe —when all the while the true enemy are the rich themselves—

I thought it was in Florida Constitution on gerrymandering once a decade.
The Fair Districts Amendment doesn’t prohibit redistricting out of the 10-year window but it (is supposed to ) prohibit(s) redistricting to favor one political party. Currently it’s 20 R/8 D so DeSantis’ map would make it 24/4. He really wants that admin job !!

Scott I have a question that hasn’t come up in the news. Political violence compared to both Bush presidencies, Obama and Biden, to the trump regime. I really don’t recall any political shootings or attacks on the president’s prior to OLD#47.
Obama was threatened probably more than T, but I am not sure there is a way to confirm it. I know Obama got four times the threats as people before him.
You’re probably correct and unfortunately that was probably because Obama was black. It’s very hard to find the truth about political attacks but a threat and actual attacks are two very different things, a threat is just that. I’m talking about violent attacks like the killing of Charlie Kirk and attempts on OLD#47 where weapons are discharged. Gabby Gifford’s comes to mind but I think it’s time we admit OLD#47 thrives on violence, hate and discord. His rhetoric and that of Stephen Miller are inviting violence. I’m sure every political person is threatened but we are also seeing non partisan judges and such being threatened it feels like in much larger numbers. I don’t think there is an answer to my question but it sure feels like there is more violence around this regime.

SECOND ICE takes NO ONE without verifiable, signed, proper Judicial Warrants presented along with i.d. at an ICE entry point - if ICE are 'law officers' then they must follow those rules
ICE warrants must name specific people & addresses & then there are rules around how and at what times to enter property and take their target - they satisfy their warrants & leave
No more us fighting ICE in the streets - ICE must abide by laws like all of us
Second Trump must be REMOVED & we do not have time to pussy-foot around with weak pretenses at impeachment or other half hearted efforts of removal then a 'we tried'
Remove him for health reasons by lawmaker emergency legislation and remove his administration as inept & unfit pending new elections
If this sounds dramatic consider how dramatic Trump's actions and rhetoric are & consider how dramatic unregulated ICE TERRORISTS in AMERICA are - there is no room for ICE in a democracy
ICE Must be defunded entirely immediately and their death camps confiscated as inhuman and not in compliance with minimum legal standards for health and safety - people are sick and dying in ICE detention - enough of this in America - current ICE Prisoners go to decent, regulated low security facilities awaiting the due process hearings they never got
There is no way to re-habilitate the ICE Terrorists that we have - we must eliminate them and create a new, regulated and accountable, entity - until the new entity comes on line we can take a much needed break from the unregulated, unaccountable TERRORISM that is the current ICE regimes they are inactive upon defunding DO IT NOW PLEASE #Schumer #Warren
