Three miles an hour
SHARED TO INFORM AND EDUCATE!
THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE NYC LIVABLE!
This week I've been thinking about the B6.
It's one of the busiest bus routes in Brooklyn, running down Bay Parkway through Bensonhurst to Bath Beach. And on parts of that stretch, the bus has historically moved as slowly as 3 miles per hour.
If you ride it twice a day, that's not just a small inconvenience. That's time taken from you. Time with your kids, time at work, time that's supposed to be yours.
That’s why earlier this week, we broke ground on new bus lanes on Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue. It's one piece of a larger effort that will speed up 175 bus routes, nearly three out of every four in this city. Once complete, this priority bus lane will mean faster commutes for thousands of New Yorkers.
When I ran for Mayor, I said buses should be fast and free. We’re already delivering on a core part of that promise: priority busways and faster buses are rolling out across the city street by street.
As we continue to deliver on our campaign promises, our movement has to stay organized for the years to come. We have to continue to prove that our vision for accessible, fast transit is no longer a distant dream, but a core demand that our movement aims to achieve.
If you can, I need you to chip in to power our campaign’s movement for big ideas and better transit. Your contribution shows reporters, pundits and politicians across the country that ideas like these have real people behind them. Every time thousands chip in, it gets harder to call our movement’s vision for fast, free buses a fantasy.
Together, we can show what we can accomplish when our movement stays organized and focused on some of our biggest, most transformational goals.
And if today's not the day, thank you for reading this far. I mean that.
In solidarity,
Zohran
