IT'S A SAD REMINDER OF REPUBLICAN FAILURES TO TAKE CARE OF
MOTHERS!
INSTEAD REPUBLICANS HAVE SUPPORTED THE WAR MONGERS, DEFENSE
INDUSTRY AND WAR PROFITEERS AS FAMILIES SUFFER!
FOOD PANTRIES ARE FLOODED WITH THOSE IN NEED - IT SHOULDN'T BE!
REPUBLICAN EXPLODING DEBT AND DEFICIT HAS DEVALUED THE DOLLAR
CREATING HIDDEN COSTS! IRRATIONAL TARIFFS HAVE INCREASED COSTS
ON FOOD PRODUCTS, AMONG OTHER GOODS.
NO REPUBLICANS SPEAK OUT!
WEALTHY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR IN
MASSACHUSETTS GIVE LIP SERVICE TO 'AFFORDABILITY' ABOUT WHICH
THEY HAVE NO PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND OFFER NO SOLUTIONS.
THE SAME MAY BE SAID OF THE MASS GOP!

This Mother's Day, I'm thinking about my mother — how she dug deep to take care of our family after my daddy had a heart attack. I’m thinking about every mama out there fighting to care for her family right now. And I’m thinking about how our government stacks the deck against mothers. Despite how obsessed Donald Trump, JD Vance, and the Republican party seem to be about birth rates and being the party of “family values,” they’re not doing anything to actually support mothers and families. In fact, they’re doing the opposite. - They cut Medicaid, which covers more than 4 in 10 births in this country. Medicaid covers nearly two-thirds of births for Black mothers.
- Despite the average family paying about 20% of their income on child care alone in 2025, they’re doing nothing to make this essential lifeline more affordable. Trump himself said “We can't take care of daycare. We're a big country. We're fighting wars. It's not possible for us to take care of daycare.” Without quality child care, mothers are being shoved out of the workforce.
- Their Big, Beautiful Bill cut funding for SNAP benefits — almost 40% of recipients of this food support in 2023 were children.
- Notably, they’re hellbent on taking away abortion rights nationwide. Most women who get abortions are already mothers. Many are working multiple jobs that don’t pay enough to support their children. Abortion bans make it even harder for those families to make ends meet. And take away a woman’s freedom to decide when and if she raises a family.
- They’ve fought to defund and close Planned Parenthood clinics — which provide patients with services like cancer screenings, STD and HIV testing, and general wellness checks in addition to abortion services.
- They're cutting the maternal health programs that keep mothers alive — eliminating Title X, the only federal program designed to give low-income women access to family planning services. They’re defunding the programs that prevent maternal deaths, even as the United States already has the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income country.
- The federal minimum wage hasn't budged in 15 years. A full-time minimum wage mother can't afford a two-bedroom apartment in any state in the country right now.
- And to top it off, they're making it harder to afford housing, groceries, and healthcare in general. By rolling back federal rules, abandoning enforcement actions, eliminating key tax credits, and slashing programs across the government — Trump’s decisions are costing Americans more than $86 billion each year.
What are they saying they’re doing to support mothers? They're promising thousand-dollar "baby bonuses.” They’ve committed to making IVF treatments cheaper — calling Trump "the fertilization president." And they’ve floated the idea of a "National Medal of Motherhood" for women with six or more children. A $1,000 baby bonus wouldn't even cover one month's rent for most families. The Trump administration is working to remove IVF protections for workers — meaning women could be fired for missing work for fertility treatments. And mothers don’t need a medal — they need structural support. I'm sure Republican politicians will be waxing poetic today about how much they love mothers. But I don't want to see any tributes from them unless they're going to actually do something — anything — to improve the lives of mothers. My mother worked hard, stretched every dollar, and fought for her family every single day. That's what mothers do. They deserve a government that fights just as hard for them. Today, and every day, I’m going to honor my mother and mothers everywhere by fighting for our government to actually pass policies that help mothers and families, not just dangle around shallow incentives. Thanks for being part of this, Elizabeth |
