Stop Trump’s Unqualified New Surgeon General Nominee

Donald Trump already tried—and failed—to install an unqualified surgeon general.

After we delivered more than 66,000 petition signatures opposing Casey Means’ nomination to Senate offices, and it became clear she didn’t have the votes to be confirmed, Trump was forced to withdraw her nomination on Thursday.

Now, instead of choosing a respected public health expert, he’s swapped in a Fox News TV doctor, Dr. Nicole Saphier—trading one dangerous pick for another.

Americans rely on the surgeon general for guidance on life-or-death decisions. But Saphier has questioned vaccine policies, downplayed COVID-19 risks, and promoted controversial claims about cancer and screening—positions that alarm public health experts.

We’ve already shown that public pressure works. Now we have to do it again. Tell the Senate: Protect Americans’ health and refuse to confirm Dr. Nicole Saphier.

When public health is politicized, confusion spreads, vaccination rates drop, and preventable diseases come back. We’ve seen this before—and the consequences can be deadly.

Fortunately, millions of lives were saved by public health officials that told the truth about COVID-19, even when that truth conflicted with Trump’s own claims.

His nomination now sends a clear message: loyalty matters more than science, facts, or people’s lives. And if the Senate confirms this nominee, it risks putting misinformation at the center of national health guidance.

But if enough of us speak out now, senators can block this nomination and demand a qualified, science-based leader instead.

Add your name before the confirmation process moves forward. Demand the Senate reject Dr. Nicole Saphier from becoming the next surgeon general to protect the health of millions.

The petition to the U.S. Senate reads: "Reject the nomination of Nicole Saphier for surgeon general and ensure that the position is filled by a qualified, evidence-based public health expert committed to science, accuracy, and the well-being of the American people."
