Nine deaths, 245 new COVID-19 cases on Cape and Islands
There were 6,623 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, increasing the total cases to 1,852,576 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health reported on Thursday.
In their weekly report, state officials also noted 716 new probable cases of coronavirus for a statewide total of 168,755.
As of Sept. 7, 166 patients were primarily hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses and 573 total patients hospitalized with COVID-19, the state agency reported.
Fifty-five patients were in intensive care units, or ICUs, and 15 patients were intubated.
Nine new deaths in Barnstable County
Closer to home, in Thursday's weekly report, state health officials said Barnstable County posted 220 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 43,309 since the pandemic started in March 2020. Dukes County (Martha's Vineyard) reported 17 new coronavirus cases, resulting in a to-date total of 4,106. Nantucket County reported eight new cases, for a total of 3,719.
Sept. 3, 2022::Six deaths, 298 new COVID-19 cases on Cape and Islands
Case numbers are lower than in last week’s report, which showed 298 new COVID-19 cases on the Cape and Islands. Deaths are higher, though, with nine deaths reported on the Cape and Islands, as compared with last week's five.
The state’s 14-day positivity rate was 7.57%. The 14-day positivity rate for Barnstable County came in at 8.91%, and 8.6% for Dukes and Nantucket counties.
Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis was treating 18 patients with coronavirus, with none in the ICU. Falmouth Hospital reported six patients, with no patients in the ICU. Martha’s Vineyard Hospital had one patient. Nantucket Cottage Hospital reported no patients being treated for coronavirus.
State health officials said Thursday there were 57 new deaths statewide among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19, increasing the total deaths to 20,169 since the pandemic began.
There were 16 deaths statewide from probable cases of COVID-19. The total number of deaths from probable cases is 1,367 in Massachusetts.
Aug. 20, 2022::Five deaths, 239 new COVID-19 cases on Cape and Islands
Barnstable County posted nine new deaths, the state agency reported. The total probable and confirmed deaths from COVID-19 is 653 in Barnstable County. There were no new deaths in Dukes and Nantucket counties combined, for a total fatality count of 21 since the pandemic began in March 2020.
