Helping Americans Stuck in the Middle East

I want to share a quick update about the serious situation unfolding in the Middle East. Americans across the Middle East were told to leave the region after the Trump Administration began conducting military strikes against Iran in coordination with Israel. But by the time that warning was issued, much of the region’s airspace was already closed, leaving many people, including Massachusetts residents, scrambling to find a safe way out.

I joined the Massachusetts delegation in pressing Secretary of State Marco Rubio for answers about what he called a “complete failure” to help evacuate Americans from the region. In a letter to Secretary Rubio, we urged the administration to take immediate action to support evacuations and protect the embassy staff serving our country abroad.

Americans overseas rely on the State Department in moments like this, especially during a crisis. We’re pushing the administration for clear answers and real plans to make sure Americans abroad get the help and protection they deserve.

Nonetheless, if you are in the Middle East or have loved ones in the region, it is still critical to connect with the State Department on the latest guidance and for help assessing travel options to return to the U.S. safely. Americans in the region can take the following steps:

  1. Enroll in the Smart Travelers Enrollment Program to receive the latest security updates

  2. Americans in the region seeking government assistance can complete the crisis intake form here: https://mytravel.state.gov/s/crisis-intake

  3. Contact the State Department’s 24/7 Task Force: +1-202-501-4444 (from abroad)  +1-888-407-4747 (from the U.S. and Canada)

Check out this page as we continue to update it with more resources. My team is also here to help, so please call my District Office at (978) 531-1669 if you need assistance.
